Our loan book is growing faster than anything else at Opal, and it needs an owner. You'll run everything between a customer's application and the capital that funds it: underwriting, risk, loan operations and our debt facilities.

This is our first credit hire. You'll report to the CEO, write the credit policy, and be the person our lenders trust.

What you'll do

- Build the underwriting framework for our loan and card products: approval criteria, limits, pricing and terms
- Make the call on larger credit decisions, and set the rules our automated underwriting runs on
- Watch the portfolio: delinquencies, loss curves, concentrations, vintages. Act early when something moves
- Own loss provisioning and reserves
- Run loan operations end to end: servicing, collections, funding and borrowing base reporting
- Manage our revolving credit facility and our relationships with lenders, including reporting and covenants
- Lead the next capital raises: facility upsizes, current lenders,



and later warehouse or forward-flow deals

You could be a fit if
- You've spent 6+ years at a private credit or specialty finance fund, in structured or leveraged finance at a bank, or in capital markets at a fintech lender
- You've underwritten SMB or commercial credit and had your own judgment on the line
- You can read a credit agreement and explain the borrowing base, advance rates and covenants without notes
- You build your own models
- You're happy negotiating terms with a lender in the morning and fixing a collections process in the afternoon

Bonus points

- You've built a credit or capital markets function at an early-stage company
- You've worked on cross-border (U.S. and Canada) facility structures
- You write basic SQL or Python

Compensation

- Toronto: CAD 170K–300K base
- Vancouver: CAD 160K–250K base

Roles include a 10–20% performance bonus and equity.
