For over 75 years, we have provided property and casualty insurance to individuals and businesses. The organization also owns Eastern Insurance, a New Brunswick insurance brokerage that operates with separate governance and management. Our approach is grounded in practical service, sound underwriting and long-term relationships with policyholders, partners and the communities we serve.

We are creating a new Manager, Growth & Distribution position as our strategy and management model continue to evolve. The role brings together growth and business development, broker and distribution relationships, marketing and external positioning. The successful candidate will have an opportunity to help shape the function and contribute to the company’s broader strategy and direction.

Overview:

Reporting directly to the President & CEO, the Manager, Growth & Distribution will join the management team and lead the company’s growth, distribution and market-facing activities.

This is a role with a broad mandate. The successful candidate will work closely with brokers and collaborate across the company to identify and develop business opportunities, while leading the company’s marketing and external communications. The role will also help the company understand changes in the market and decide where to focus its efforts.

The position will suit someone who knows the property and casualty insurance business, is comfortable representing the company and wants to build something rather than step into a narrowly defined job. As a member of the management team, this person will also contribute to strategy, business planning and the overall direction of the company.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead the company’s insurer-side distribution development and build on relationships with existing and prospective broker partners.
- Identify worthwhile opportunities for profitable growth and help move approved opportunities forward.
- Lead marketing and external communications,



including the company’s market positioning and digital presence.
- Identify opportunities to further develop the broker experience and Carleton-Fundy Mutual’s relationships with its distribution partners.
- Develop partnerships and other external relationships that can support growth or improve the company’s position in the market.
- Represent Carleton-Fundy Mutual Insurance with brokers, industry organizations and other external partners.
- Monitor relevant market and competitive developments and bring useful insights and opportunities to the management team.
- Work closely with Underwriting and other functions when assessing opportunities or carrying out approved initiatives.
- Set priorities for the Growth & Distribution function and provide clear updates on progress and results.
- Contribute to company strategy, business planning and other management priorities.

Requirements:

We do not expect the successful candidate to have done every part of this job before. We are open to candidates from a range of relevant backgrounds and are interested in the overall experience, judgment and capabilities they would bring to the role.

- Relevant experience in property and casualty insurance, brokerage, distribution, business development, marketing or a related market-facing setting.
- A solid understanding of relationship-based distribution. Experience with broker distribution and insurer-broker relationships would be a significant asset.
- The ability to build credibility and productive external relationships.
- Commercial judgment and an ability to recognize worthwhile business opportunities.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence representing the company externally.
- A practical understanding of marketing and communications and the ability to lead that part of the function effectively.
- The ability to work independently,



set priorities and follow through.
- The judgment and confidence to contribute effectively at the management table.
- A practical approach suited to a smaller organization, where managers lead the work and also take part in carrying it out.

CIP, FCIP or other relevant insurance education would be an asset. Relevant post-secondary education and established relationships in the Canadian property and casualty insurance market would also be assets.

Work Arrangement & Travel:

The position allows flexibility for hybrid work. Regular time together is still important, so the successful candidate will normally work from the Sussex office one or two days per week. Frequent travel across New Brunswick will also be required. This will include visits to the company’s other offices and meetings with brokers and industry partners.

Benefits:

- Base salary of $80,000–$100,000. The successful candidate’s salary within this range will reflect relevant experience, qualifications, insurance knowledge and the value the person can bring to the role.
