We are recruiting for a growing agricultural operation specializing in the cultivation and production of specialty mushrooms. As we continue to develop and expand our operations, we are looking for a hands-on Quality Assurance Coordinator to help build, implement, and maintain strong quality and food safety systems across our facility.
Commercial greenhouse experience is essential!
This is an opportunity for someone with commercial greenhouse experience who understands the realities of a growing environment and is comfortable combining practical, on-the-floor involvement with the documentation and systems required to support a safe, consistent and high-quality product.
The Quality Assurance Coordinator will be responsible for supporting and overseeing quality assurance and food safety programs, including the development and maintenance of standard operating procedures, production and sanitation standards, documentation, traceability, corrective actions and audit readiness.
Working closely with production and leadership, this individual will help ensure quality and food safety requirements are practical, consistently followed and properly documented throughout the operation.
As we continue to grow, this role will also play an important part in developing and strengthening the systems required to support future certification and regulatory requirements.
Required
· Previous professional experience working in a commercial greenhouse or controlled environment growing operation.
· Experience with quality assurance, food safety, compliance, production standards or similar responsibilities within an agricultural, greenhouse or food-production environment.
· Experience developing, implementing, maintaining or working with SOPs, work instructions and controlled documentation.
· Strong understanding of sanitation, hygiene, contamination prevention and good production practices.
· Robust attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate and organized records.
· Ability to identify problems, investigate causes and develop practical solutions.
· Strong written and verbal communication skills.
· Comfortable working both independently and collaboratively in a hands-on production environment.
Strongly Preferred
· Direct experience with specialty or exotic mushroom cultivation and production.
· Experience working with fresh produce, specialty crops or other highly perishable agricultural products.
· Experience supporting the implementation or maintenance of an SQF or other GFSI-recognized food safety program.
· Experience participating in internal, external or certification audits.
· Experience with traceability, recall programs, corrective actions and root-cause investigations.
Additional Assets
· SQF Practitioner training or previous experience supporting an SQF-certified facility.
· HACCP training or certification.
· Internal auditor training.
· GMP/GAP or other relevant food safety or agricultural quality training.
· Experience helping an organization develop or formalize a quality management system.
Key Responsibilities
· Develop, implement, review and maintain Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), work instructions, forms and quality documentation.
· Support the development and ongoing maintenance of the company's food safety and quality management systems.
· Monitor greenhouse and production activities to ensure established quality, food safety, sanitation and production standards are being followed.
· Conduct routine quality inspections and identify potential food safety, quality or process concerns.
· Maintain accurate QA records and ensure required production and food safety documentation is completed consistently.
· Support product traceability, lot tracking and recall preparedness.
· Investigate quality concerns and non-conformances and work with the appropriate team members to determine root causes and implement corrective and preventative actions.
· Develop and maintain sanitation, cleaning and hygiene standards appropriate to the growing and production environment.
· Assist with environmental monitoring, pest management and contamination-prevention programs as they relate to product quality and food safety.
· Support employee training related to SOPs, food safety, sanitation, hygiene, documentation and quality requirements.
· Conduct internal reviews and audits to identify gaps and opportunities for improvement.
· Support preparation for external, customer, regulatory and certification audits.
· Assist with the development and implementation of systems required for SQF or other recognized food safety certification programs.
· Monitor changes to applicable food safety, agricultural and regulatory requirements and assist the organization in maintaining compliance.
· Work collaboratively with production and leadership to develop quality systems that are effective, practical and sustainable within day-to-day operations.
· Promote a culture of food safety, quality, accountability and continuous improvement throughout the facility.
What We're Looking For
We're looking for someone who understands that effective quality assurance is more than paperwork. The right person will be comfortable spending time in the growing and production environment, working alongside the team, identifying opportunities for improvement and developing systems that people can realistically follow.
You don't need to arrive knowing everything about specialty mushrooms, while direct mushroom cultivation experience is strongly preferred. We're particularly interested in someone who brings a strong foundation in quality and food safety and is excited about applying that knowledge to a unique and growing agricultural operation.
This role may be especially well suited to someone who has worked within an established quality system and is ready for the chance to take greater ownership in developing and improving one.
Pay: $65,000.00-$70,000.00 per year
