JOB SUMMARY

HyTech Production Ltd. is seeking a Parent Seed Technician/Operator to join our team in the East Kootenay region. The Parent Seed Technician/Operator is responsible for managing foundation seed production fields and executing the field operations required to produce high-quality seed that meets genetic and physical quality standards. Special consideration will be given to applicants with agronomy qualifications or experience, including agronomists.

ACCOUNTABLE TO: Parent Seed Production Manager

LOCATION: East Kootenay, BC

TIMING AND VOLUME: All year, 1.0 FTE

SALARY RANGE: $60,000-$75,000 annually

RESPONSIBILITIES

· Perform all field tasks (planting, harvesting, rogueing, spraying and irrigating) in accordance company specifications

· Scout fields for volunteers

· Document all field actions and notes in HyTech software

· Ensure all seed movements and inventory are correctly documented





· Analyze field results after each season and communicate results with the team

· Communicate with growers on requirements and expectations

· Develop new growers and manage the grower contact inventory for the East Kootenays

· Transport harvested seed to the facility in Coaldale, AB

· Maintain and repair equipment as required

· Transport equipment to main office in Coaldale, AB as required

· Supervise seasonal staff and ensure work is being performed to HyTech Standards in a safe manner

· Provide short-term assistance to the warehouse facility in Coaldale, AB during off-season

· Other tasks as required

SKILLS REQUIRED

· Strong attention to detail

· Proficient in use of technology, specifically, Microsoft Office

· Possess strong and qualified communication skills

· Effective planning, organizing and priority management skills

· Willing to do what it takes to get the job done

· Love to solve problems

· Agriculture knowledge and experience

· Valid driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract

· Ability to tow a heavy trailer

· Ability to communicate in Spanish is an asset

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS AND ACCREDITATIONS

· Agronomy certificate (preferred, not required)

· Certified Crop Adviser (CCA) designation (preferred, not required)
