Join our team as a Hospitalist Physician at West Nipissing General Hospital!

The West Nipissing General Hospital is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Hospitalist Physician to join our team. We are open to full-time, part-time, casual or locum work schedules. Call us to discuss what works well for you today!

Job Summary & Key Responsibilities:

- Provide high-quality care, ensuring timely diagnosis, treatment and discharge to all admitted patients in the in-patient units:
- 31 General Medicine beds (may include some ALC patients)
- 19 Complex Continuing Care beds
- 1 hospice suite
- Collaborate with nurses, specialists, and allied healthcare professionals to deliver comprehensive patient care
- Maintain accurate and timely patient records in compliance with hospital policies and regulations
- Participate in the ongoing professional development and training of visiting medical students and residents of the Northern Ontario School of Medicine (NOSM), McMaster, University of Ottawa etc.
- On call for admitted patients during your rotation
- Regular rotations scheduled from Monday-Sunday
- Overnight LTC call coverage

Regular Resources:

- Departments staffed with 2 RN’s, 4.5 RPN’s, 4 PSW’s
- Full-Time Lead Nurse
- Full-time Discharge Planner / Social Worker
- Full-time Physiotherapist and Physiotherapy Assistant
- In office CT, Ultrasound, X-Ray
- On-site Lab
- Respiratory Therapy
- Helipad and Ornge support

After Hours Resources:

- Departments staffed with 2 RN’s, 3 RPN’s, 3 PSW’s
- GP Anesthesia on call
- Internal Medicine on call for phone consults
- X-Ray tech on-site evenings, on call overnight
- CT tech on-site evenings, on call overnight
- Ultrasound 0700-1500 on Saturdays
- A Radiology Nipissing Radiologist member onsite twice a week (Tuesdays and Thursdays),



with emergency on-call consultation and reporting provided 24/7
- Lab tech on-site evenings, on call overnight
- Other hospital resources: Visiting specialists, including Cardiology, Urology, Otolaryngology, Psychiatry, and Gastroenterology

Equipment:

- Portable ultrasound machine
- Access to a portable x-ray machine

Requirements/Qualifications:

- Current registration with College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario
- Current ACLS and ATLS certification
- Experienced and comfortable working alone in an inpatient unit with variable acuity and up to 50 patients (mix of General Medicine and CCC)
- Strong clinical skills with the ability to manage a variety of acute medical cases
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Commitment to providing compassionate and patient-centered care
- Adherence to hospital policies, procedures, Code of Conduct, by-laws and organizational values

Benefits & Opportunities:

$1,000 daily stipend available:

- $595.05 – Hospital On-Call Coverage (HOCC)
- $254.95 - Hospital funded Daily stipend
- $150.00 - Temporary incentive top up

All OHIP billings retained by physician (traditionally between $1000-$1300) per day)

- These amounts may change with the implementation of the Burden-Based On-Call agreement. The total daily stipend will not be less than $1,000 per 24-hours.

Opportunity to cover ED-Backup:

- $250 / 12 hours
- Hourly rate for backup coverage work

Northern Rural Recruitment and Retention Initiative (NRRRI)

- Between $84,851 and $124,730 paid over a four-year period to physicians who establish full-time practices in eligible Northern communities

Northern Physician Retention Initiative (NPRI):

- $8,304.88 a year for physicians established in Northern Ontario

Community Incentive

- $100,000 for 5-year Return of Service Agreement
