It also provides a variety of certificate programs and relevant quality life-long learning opportunities through Ridge Meadows College and Continuing Education.

SD42 is looking for qualified applicants interested in working as a Senior Accountant at our District Education Office. Reporting to the Accounting Manager, the Senior Accountant performs the necessary tasks to ensure the timely completion and distribution of accounting records, financial data and analyses, budgets and projections. Reviews, analyzes and processes a variety of accounting data and source documents.

This is a full time continuing position effective November 9, 2026 . ACCOUNTING:

- Maintains the general ledger chart of accounts; and advises payroll and human resources on use of general ledger chart of accounts.
- Reviews, analyzes and processes data transfers between a variety of systems and the accounting system. (Reviews, analyzes and processes the interface from the payroll system into the general ledger system and liaises with the payroll and HR departments to resolve all interfacing issues.
- Performs complex general ledger account reconciliations; bank account reconciliation, vendor and customer account reconciliations.
- Assists in the preparation of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial reports for Senior Management, the Board and the Ministry of Education and Child Care; Reviews for accuracy, codes and processes vendor and customer invoices and batches.
- Prepares cash flow projections.
- Liaises with donors, schools and Parent Advisory Councils,



prepares tax receipts for donations received and assist with the preparation of the annual charities return.
- Provides information to departments and schools regarding revenues and expenses recorded in the general ledger.

Performs analysis and prepares explanations for variances of actual revenues and expenditures from budgets.

- Monitors department and school financial performance against budget and reports variances identified to departments and management.
- Assists with the school-based audits and preparation of audit reports.
- Develops and provide on the-job accounting related training for all schools and departments.
- Develops and recommends changes to procedures and systems to improve efficiency and control.
- Communicates with senior executives and management as required to ensure the timely completion and distribution of accounting records, financial data and analyses, budgets, and projections.
- Prepares presentation materials; accounting directives; Completion of a bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field. Completion or nearing completion of a recognized Canadian accounting designation (CPA, CPA-CA, CPA-CGA, or CPA-CMA), or equivalent credential, preferred.

Three to five years’ experience in an intermediate accounting position or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Sound knowledge of the Canadian Public Sector Accounting Standards combined with demonstrated strong knowledge in accounting principles.

Proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Specific knowledge and experience in financial information systems (PowerSchool preferred).

Ability to handle confidential/sensitive information and materials with tact and discretion.
