The MLA works under laboratory leadership across Specimen Receiving, Chemistry, Hematology, Transfusion Services, Microbiology, Histology, and Cytology. Responsibilities include processing specimens, preparing reagents, coding requisitions, and supporting Anatomical Pathology functions. The position also maintains equipment, supplies, records, and compliance requirements.
Key Responsibilities: Receive, sort, and process specimens using established procedures
Prepare reagents, stains, solutions, and referred specimens
Perform report handling and associated clerical duties
Maintain quality assurance,



equipment, supplies, and discrepancy reporting
Support training, education, safety, and quality improvement initiatives
Requirements: Grade XII or recognized equivalent completion required
MLPAO Medical Laboratory Assistant/Technician Certification required
Recent Anatomical Pathology laboratory experience preferred
Medical terminology and previous computer experience essential
Meditech, LIS, and Accreditation Canada knowledge preferred
Support RVH laboratory services through specimen processing, quality practices, data entry, and cooperative Medical Laboratory Assistant expertise.
