About Moment Energy
Independent energy is here. Help us deploy it.
Energy should be free. Free from aging grids, fragile supply chains, and unnecessary extraction. At Moment Energy, we’re building a world where clean power is abundant, affordable, and uninterrupted for everyone.
The world doesn’t need another promise about energy; it needs proof that a freer future is possible. Moment Energy is the pragmatic liberator of power, the only company certified to turn the largest untapped energy supply into independent energy.
Now is the moment. While the industry scraps millions of batteries with decades of life left, we put them to work by repurposing large-format batteries into advanced battery energy storage systems that deliver real-world impact.
We were told second-life batteries would never be safe enough or scalable enough. We didn’t argue, we engineered the solution. Today, Moment Energy delivers 5x the energy density and holds the certifications required to deploy energy independence at scale.
Now is the moment. Join us.
The Opportunity
We are seeking a detail-oriented and hands-on Mechanical (Thermal/Vibration) Test Engineer to join our dynamic team. This role is crucial for ensuring the safety, reliability, and performance of our creative battery energy storage systems (BESS). You will spend the majority of your time (80%+) in the R&D; and production lab, setting up, running, and analyzing a wide variety of tests that support mechanical and thermal subsystems. You will be expected to own Thermal, Vibration & Shock testing from start to finish including thermal chamber setup,
fixture design for component and sub-system level tests that simulate real world temperature and vibration profiles we see in the field. Your work will directly contribute to our product development, certification, and overall success. If you are passionate about clean technology and thrive in a hands‑on, fast‑paced environment, this is the role for you.
Responsibilities and Duties
- Develop, execute, and document comprehensive test plans for various needs, including certification, compliance, R&D;, component validation, and lifecycle testing.
- Take primary ownership of hands‑on test setup, including setting up fixtures, wiring thermocouples and accelerometers, power supplies, cameras, and cooling bench setups.
- Own vibration and shock testing from start to finish: define the profiles (sine, random, and shock), design fixtures, place accelerometers, collaborate with third party companies to run tests, and investigate failures.
- Perform thermal chamber tests, including setting up controllers, wiring thermocouples, and running cooling plates, chillers, flow and pressure-drop measurements.
- 3D CAD design of test fixtures including modal analysis, sized for the shaker table’s capacity and with resonances kept outside the test frequency range.
- Manage 2D manufacturing drawings and fixture fabrication for testing subassemblies and single components, working with both in-house fabrication resources and external vendors.
- Set up and configure data acquisition systems (DAQ) for data capture of various signals (temperature, humidity, voltage, current, etc.)
- Configure and run scripts for automating test equipment, data gathering, and long‑term tests.
- Support the team with abuse testing, including sample preparation and test setup coordination.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and calibrate lab test equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Contribute to the creation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for testing and lab activities.
The Candidate
We’re looking for individuals with the following traits, skills, and experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related technical field.
- 3+ years of experience in a hands‑on testing, validation, or verification role.
- Hands‑on experience running vibration and shock tests (shaker tables, vibration controllers, accelerometers).
- Proficiency in 3D CAD (Fusion, SolidWorks, Onshape, or similar), with a track record of designing fixtures or hardware that was built and used.
- Proven ability to create test plans, design experiments, and document results.
- Hands‑on proficiency in common machine shop tools such as mill, drill press, tap and die, plasma cutter, and mechanical assembly of fixtures.
Nice-to-Have Experience:
- Experience with data capture/data acquisition systems, test automation, or data visualization and analysis using scripting la
