Engineer synthetic microbial consortia for syngas-to-ethanol conversion at NRC’s Clean Energy Innovation program through laboratory research.
This two-year postdoctoral fellowship focuses on microbial community engineering within a multidisciplinary team. You will lead the design, construction, and experimental evaluation of consortia with complementary metabolic functions. The work supports higher-efficiency, more reliable ethanol production and sustainable fuel technologies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Isolate microbial strains thriving in syngas environments
- Adapt strains through enrichment and adaptive laboratory evolution
- Design synthetic consortia with complementary metabolic functions
- Evaluate consortia performance in laboratory-scale bioreactors
- Lead consortium construction and experimental evaluation
Requirements:
- Ph.D. in microbiology, bioinformatics, environmental biology, or relevant discipline
- Microbiology, molecular biology, or microbial ecology experience
- Experience integrating genomic or metagenomic data
- PhD obtained within three years or completion within six months
- Ability to work full-time physically at the NRC location
Apply microbial ecology, genomic data integration, and consortium design to advance syngas fermentation research at NRC.
