ACCOUNTANT

Shelter Island Marina & Boatyard - Richmond, B.C.

Shelter Island Marina & Boatyard, established in 1975, is part of the McPhail Group of Companies. We are located in East Richmond on the South Arm of the Fraser River at 6911 Graybar Road, just 20 km’s from downtown Vancouver and 10 nautical miles from Steveston. We are a complete Marine Facility and well known among boaters in British Columbia.

We are currently looking for an Accountant to join our family operated business.

The Accountant reports to and works closely with the Operations Manager. Responsibilities include bookkeeping/accounting functions, financial transactions, budgets and reporting required for Shelter Island Marina (SIM). As well, they provide support for special projects and other tasks as required.

PRIMARY ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES, include but are not limited to:

· Records, and completes daily input and reports including financial transactions, sales, billing and customer receipts, and preparing deposits.

· Completes full-cycle accounting, prepares monthly revenue and financial reports, and assists with year-end audits.

· Prepares monthly AR close, billing statements and generates collection reports.

· Reconciles vendor and customer accounts and initiates collections.

· Prepares invoices and responds to customer inquiries.

· Manages all cash floats, petty cash, credit cards, and collection of all.

· Files GST and PST returns and prepares monthly regulatory tax remittances.

· Reviews accounts payable aging report.

· Prepares and reviews employee time sheets and processes payroll and T4’s.





· Maintains schedule of fixed assets and equipment.

· Records and updates inventory, compiles monthly Cost of Goods Sold (COGS) report and coordinates annual physical inventory count.

· Manages customers' credit ratings.

· Manages accounting for capital and demolition projects.

· Compiles annual insurance for the Marina and Boatyard operations.

· Troubleshoots accounting system issues.

· Assumes additional responsibilities as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education

· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Accounting, Finance or Economics.

· CPA designation preferred but not required.

Experience

· Minimum of 5 years' experience in a similar role. Experience in a similar industry/environment is strongly preferred.

· Proficient in various accounting systems including SAGE 50 or similar program.

· KIS – Kord Info Systems, Moneris – Inventory system or similar is an asset.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

· Well versed in Canadian accounting principles and practices including financial statements, month/year end reports, and budgeting.

· Adept in MS Office Suite, including advanced Excel (pivot tables, v-look-up, conditional statements, etc.).

· Solid experience with SAGE 50 or similar accounting system.





· Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy and confidence to make recommendations to improve processes for maximum efficiency or return.

· Polished English communication and interpersonal skills, excellent customer service skills and the ability to interact effectively with individuals at all levels.

· Demonstrated conflict resolution skills with the ability to assess and navigate various situations and be solution focused.

· Ability to work both independently and collaboratively to contribute to the company’s success.

· Demonstrated ability to manage priorities and adapt to change as required.

· Flexibility to assume additional responsibilities and work additional hours as required.

Additional Notes:

Salary is commensurate with experience and education.

This position requires access to a vehicle as SIM is not easily transit accessible.
