The Field Vegetable Farm Worker is a full-time SEASONAL position. The worker will perform the labour intensive tasks associated with field preparation, planting, hoeing/weeding, irrigating and harvesting hand picked field cucumbers, peppers and tomatoes around Chatham Ontario. This job provides full time seasonal work of 40-60 hours per week from April 30-October 31st. This job requires working outside in all weather, performing the labour intensive activity of picking cucumbers off vines, peppers off pepper plants and sorting tomatoes on a harvester. This is repetitive physical work involving bending, picking and lifting baskets up to 50lbs. Candidates must be physically fit and willing to work up to 12 hours per day, on holidays and weekends in all weather-hot, cold, raining. Must be capable of identifying and selecting specific sizes and colours of vegetables. Candidates must have their own transportation to and from work. Hourly rate is minimum wage which is currently $17.95. If the crop is suitable, the peppers may be paid at a piecework rate which provides an opportunity to earn more. Must speak english or spanish. Prior vegetable harvesting experience preferred but will train. No degree or certificate required.
