Lotus Group is proud to partner with our Edmonton based client in the search for an experienced and forward-thinking Operations Controller to lead the organization’s finance and accounting function.

This is a unique opportunity for a strong technical accounting professional who enjoys being hands-on while also playing an important role in the broader business. As the senior finance position within the organization, the Operations Controller will have ownership of the finance function and work directly with the CEO and senior leadership team.

Reporting to the CEO and working closely with the Director of Operations and Director of Sales, the Operations Controller will provide timely, accurate and meaningful financial information that supports operational performance, sales strategy and organizational decision-making.

This role goes beyond traditional accounting. The successful candidate will be curious about the business, interested in what is happening across the organization and able to turn financial and operational data into meaningful insight. They will also bring an openness to technology, automation and evolving systems, continually looking for opportunities to improve how information is captured, analyzed and used.

The ideal candidate is equally comfortable being in the weeds of the accounting function and sitting at the table with leadership as a trusted business partner.

Role Responsibilities

- Lead and take ownership of the organization's complete finance and accounting function.
- Prepare accurate and timely monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements, including reconciliations, accruals, journal entries and supporting schedules.
- Lead month-end and year-end close processes and coordinate annual audit and year-end activities with external partners.
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning and ongoing financial analysis.
- Develop meaningful financial and operational reporting, dashboards and KPIs that provide leadership with greater visibility into organizational performance.
- Partner closely with the CEO,



Director of Operations and Director of Sales to provide data-driven insight supporting operational, sales and strategic decisions.
- Analyze financial and business performance, identify trends and variances, and bring forward recommendations rather than simply reporting results.
- Translate financial information into clear, practical insights for non-financial leaders.
- Maintain strong internal controls, accounting policies, processes and financial governance.
- Oversee banking, cash management, payroll, statutory filings and other day-to-day financial requirements.
- Lead, coach and mentor one accounting team member, providing clear direction, development and support.
- Work collaboratively across the organization to understand business needs and ensure the finance function is responsive and connected to operations.
- Continually evaluate accounting systems, reporting processes and workflows to identify opportunities for greater efficiency and automation.
- Explore and leverage technology, including evolving reporting, business intelligence and AI tools, to improve the effectiveness of the finance function.
- Support organizational planning, special projects and strategic initiatives as required.

Role Requirements

- CPA designation required.
- Minimum five years of progressive accounting and finance experience, including responsibility for the full accounting cycle.
- Strong technical accounting foundation with demonstrated experience preparing financial statements, budgets, forecasts and management reporting.
- Experience operating at the Controller level or taking significant ownership of an accounting function.




- Demonstrated ability to remain hands-on and close to the details while also contributing at a broader operational and strategic level.
- Strong analytical capability with an ability to interpret financial and operational data and turn it into meaningful business insight.
- Previous leadership experience with the ability to coach, mentor and develop others.
- Strong business acumen and an interest in understanding operations, sales and the broader organization.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills; experience with Power BI, dashboards, business intelligence or other reporting tools considered an asset.
- Curiosity and openness toward technology, automation, AI and recent ways of working.
- Experience improving accounting processes, systems, reporting or internal controls.
- Excellent communication skills with an ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with both financial and non-financial leaders.
- Collaborative, team-oriented approach combined with a high degree of ownership, accountability and attention to detail.

Compensation: A comprehensive compensation and benefits plan will accompany the successful candidate, with an annual salary based upon individual experience, education, and skillset, as well as performance-based incentives based on pre-determined KPIs. Base salary range of 110-140K.
