The Swan Lake Christmas Hill Nature Sanctuary Society seeks to expand its Board of Directors About the Organization: The Swan Lake Nature Sanctuary is a charitable non-profit environmental conservation and education organization in Saanich. We are seeking to expand our Governance Board with strategic, and cooperative community members to support and promote the Society’s mission and programs. Guided by current policy and governance practices, this volunteer Board supports the Society’s mission to conserve and restore Nature Sanctuary lands and waters, while inspiring community stewardship engagement and enhancing collaboration with First Peoples of this region. The following skills and experiences will be an asset:
- Board Governance
- Financial statements, budgeting, and oversight
- Strategic planning
- Policy development & best practices As a member of the Governance Board, the Director’s

key responsibilities
are to:
- Provide effective strategic guidance and oversight
- Promote the Nature Sanctuary’s vision, mission, and values
- Commit to a two-year term
- Attend six board meetings a year,



with preparation and reading beforehand; Committee and/or task group participation; attendance at the Annual General Meeting; and attending two or three community events each year. Ideal Board members bring the ability to navigate complex issues with a balance and adaptable approach and have skill or willingness to learn Microsoft Office Word, Excel, M365 & Teams. You enjoy working as part of a team and are motivated to help with projects that bring community closer to shared visions. We welcome applicants from a broad range of backgrounds, perspectives, and experience. Applicants must reside within the Capital Regional District (CRD) and to complete a Criminal Record Check.
