Job Overview

We're excited to bring on a current member of the team heading into our busy Autumn/Winter season! As a host, you are the first face our guests see during their visit— so you will play the important role of setting up their experience at St. Augustine's. We strive to foster an experience that is safe, professional, friendly, and welcoming for all guests and staff at all times.

Responsibilities of the Host/Busser

- Greeting guests at the front door and seating them.
- Explaining menus and features to guests and establishing a positive experience.
- Pre-bussing and bussing tables.
- Ensuring servers are sat an equal amount of tables (whenever possible).
- Dealing with online delivery orders at the door.
- Running food and drinks if necessary.

Skills

- Communication in a Team Environment: We can have a lot of staff on the floor at any given time and communication between us means that nothing gets lost or missed and that we can provide the best service possible for our guests. Efficient, straight-forward, and respectful dialogue between you and our servers, managers, bartenders and kitchen staff is the key to you being an effective host at St. Augustine's.
- Task Management and Organization: There will be times when tasks start piling up — dirty tables, a waitlist, a lineup at the door, etc. — and you will have to quickly and confidently decide what to do next or what to delegate to another member of staff. During your training,

you will learn how to prioritize tasks and stay organized throughout the flow of service.
- Square, OpenTable, 7Shifts, and food delivery tablets (like Uber or Doordash): We use a variety of applications for service. Don’t worry if you aren’t familiar with them yet; you’ll quickly learn how to use each software during your training.
- Customer Service: It likely goes without saying that being able to greet and interact with guests will be your most important skill as a host. Although your interactions with guests may feel small in the scheme of their visit, those small moments are important for establishing how a guest interprets the quality of our service and the atmosphere of our space.
- Pragmatic Decision-making: You will learn that situations are never black and white and there is never one answer to a problem. The ability to consider the context and status of both seated guests and service staff while you make decisions will be an unavoidable skill.

Benefits

- Tips: 1% of server and bartender sales (during the period the host worked) are tipped out to the host.
- Discounts: 50% on all food (even while off shift) and free non-alcoholic beverages while on shift.
