About The Role
Electrans builds retrofit and autonomous coupling systems for commercial vehicles. You will design the robotic hardware that connects truck to trailers connections without a human in the loop. You will own designs from concept through field deployment.
What You’ll Do
- Design robotic and electromechanical assemblies in CAD (actuators, linkages, brackets, enclosures, harness routing)
- Run design for manufacturing (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) reviews with suppliers and the shop floor
- Create drawings, GD&T;, BOMs, and ECOs in our PLM system
- Specify motors, sensors, bearings, fasteners, and sealing for outdoor, vibration-heavy duty cycles
- Run tolerance stack-ups, structural checks, and FEA to validate designs
- Plan and run validation and acceptance tests, and turn results into design changes
- Design jigs and fixtures for production
- Work with software and electrical engineers on interfaces, packaging, and cable routing
- Support field issues and Root-Cause Failure Analysis from deployed sites
Must Have
- Bachelor's in mechanical engineering, mechatronics, or robotics (or equivalent)
- 3+ years designing mechanical systems for robots, automation, or vehicles
- Strong CAD skills (SolidWorks or similar) and GD&T;
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, assembly, and troubleshooting
- Comfortable working with sheet metal, machined, cast, and welded parts
- Able to travel to the US for business
Nice to have
- Commercial vehicle, trailer, or heavy equipment experience
- FEA (SolidWorks Simulation or Ansys)
- Experience with PLM/ERP systems and ECO processes
- Startup experience taking a design from prototype to production
- Familiarity with CAN, sensors, and basic electrical integration
What Success Looks Like
