Job Summary

Capilano Playschool is a Learn Through Play early learning program located within Hardisty School in southeast Edmonton. We are a licensed half-day preschool offering morning classes for children ages 3–5.

We are seeking a nurturing, enthusiastic, and creative Preschool Teacher to join our team as soon as possible!

The ideal candidate is passionate about early childhood education and creating a welcoming, engaging environment where children can learn, explore, and grow through play. Our teacher facilitates daily classroom routines, supports individual learning needs, and provides meaningful and creative invitations to play.

This is a contract position for the remainder of the 2026–2027 school year, ending in mid-June 2027, with the possibility of extension. Compensation is distributed evenly over the remaining contract months.

Responsibilities

· Implement a Learn Through Play educational approach that is joyful, engaging, active, mindful, meaningful, exploratory, and interactive.

· Create a safe, inclusive, nurturing, and engaging classroom environment that supports children's holistic development.

· Plan and facilitate daily classroom routines, including circle time, stories, creative activities, and free play.

· Develop monthly themes and learning opportunities that incorporate children's interests and ideas whenever possible.

· Foster positive, supportive relationships with each child while recognizing individual developmental needs.

· Introduce activities that promote fine motor, gross motor, cognitive, emotional, and social development.

· Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.

· Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with the Capilano Playschool Board, Administrative Assistant, families, classroom volunteers, and Hardisty School staff.





· Communicate effectively with families, including providing a monthly classroom newsletter.

· Participate in monthly board meetings, open houses, and Annual General Meetings.

· Assist with planning special classroom activities, celebrations, and field trips as appropriate.

Skills and Qualifications

· Alberta Child Care Certification: Level 3 Early Childhood Educator

· Previous experience working in an early childhood education or preschool setting.

· Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check (dated within six months of hiring).

· Current First Aid and CPR certification.

· Solid communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.

· Ability to work independently while collaborating with families, volunteers, and the Playschool Board.

· Creativity, flexibility, and enthusiasm for play-based learning.

· A genuine passion for supporting young children's learning and development.

Compensation and Benefits

· Hourly Pay: $26.00–$28.00 (including applicable government wage top-up).

· $560 in lieu of benefits for remaining school months of 2026/2027 (subject to contract terms). $750 in contract years moving forward.

· $200 professional development resource allowance.

· Paid preparation and planning time (included in contract hours).
