Job Summary

Root River Logging is seeking an experienced Excavator Operator for our forestry road construction crew. This field-based position may require camp stays and overtime. Applicants should have at least 3 years of safe and productive excavator experience, preferably in road construction. The Operator will work with other heavy equipment operators to build and maintain forestry roads safely and efficiently.

Duties

- Safely and efficiently operate an excavator during forestry road construction and maintenance.
- Excavate and shape ditches, drainage channels, slopes, and roadbeds to support road construction.
- Assist with culvert installation, drainage crossings, clearing, grubbing, and site preparation.
- Move and place earth, rock, and other materials as required for forestry road construction.
- Perform routine equipment inspections, maintenance, and fueling; report mechanical concerns.
- Work with dozer, grader, loader, and truck operators to keep road construction moving safely.
- Maintain basic yet accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance, and project progress.
- Follow site safety procedures and maintain protected working distances around other equipment.

Requirements





- Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in the safe and effective operation of an excavator.
- Experience building forestry roads, including ditching and culvert installation, is preferred.
- Ability to follow road alignments, grades, and supervisor direction and perform minor equipment maintenance.
- Strong communication skills, attention to detail, reliability, and ability to work as part of an equipment crew.
- Basic documentation skills to maintain records of equipment usage and maintenance.
- Must be able to work in a camp environment with flexibility in shift work.
- Willingness to travel and work outdoors in remote forestry locations.
- Able to work cooperatively with other operators and independently with little supervision.
- Physically fit to endure the rigors of full-time fieldwork in all conditions.
- A strong commitment to safe work practices is required.
- Accountable and dependable.

Pay: From $32.50 per hour

Expected hours: 55.0 – 70.0 per week
