Developmental Support Worker / Personal Support Worker / Certified Nursing Assistant / Health Care Aide - Kanata Centrum, Ottawa - CAD$108.00/week
Description
About the Clients:
We're seeking a compassionate caregiver for a couple in Kanata, Ottawa. The husband is 80 years old with a heart condition (having had two open heart surgeries and five stents) and is recovering from pneumonia contracted earlier this year, which has left him weakened. His wife is younger and physically stronger but experiences memory challenges. The husband comes from a generation where cooking wasn't part of his skillset, and both need support ensuring they have proper, timely meals. They currently rely on ready-made meal services like Red Apron but struggle with meal preparation and timing—sometimes not eating until 9 PM, which isn't conducive to their health needs.
Responsibilities:
- Prepare nutritious evening meals using ready-made meal kits and frozen meal services
- Ensure meals are served at appropriate times (ideally between 4-7 PM)
- Light meal planning and preparation that can be reheated on days without visits
- Potential light grocery shopping for fresh ingredients as needed
- General companionship and support during meal times
- Submit receipts for any purchases made on behalf of the family
- Adapt to evolving care needs as the family's situation develops
What We're Looking For:
- A warm, patient caregiver who understands the challenges of aging and health recovery
- Someone with robust meal preparation skills—ideally a caregiver who has experience cooking for their own family
- Ability to follow simple meal kit instructions and create appetizing, healthy meals
- Reliability and punctuality to ensure consistent meal times
- Flexibility to potentially increase hours as care needs evolve
- Understanding of working with clients who have memory challenges and cardiac conditions
- Someone who can build trust and rapport with the family gradually
Schedule:
Starting with 2 visits per week, with potential to increase as needs develop. Visits would be 2-3 hours in the late afternoon/early evening (approximately 4-7 PM timeframe). Specific days and times to be determined based on caregiver and family availability. The family prefers to start slowly and build up the relationship over time.
