FARM SUPERVISOR

NOC 82030 – Agricultural Service Contractors and Farm Supervisors

Position Summary

Working farm supervisor responsible for coordinating and supervising orchard workers while actively participating in day-to-day apple, plum and cherry production. This is a hands-on position on a small farm requiring both crew supervision and physical orchard work.

Key Duties

- Coordinate, assign and supervise the daily work of farm workers and harvesting labourers.
- Organize work schedules, assign tasks and establish procedures to complete orchard operations efficiently.
- Supervise and participate in apple, plum and cherry growing, pruning, thinning, deleafing, training, tying, fertilizing, spraying, irrigation, weeding and harvesting.
- Personally perform orchard duties, including pruning trees, removing suckers and water sprouts, tying and securing plants, deleafing and harvesting crops.
- Train trees to promote healthy growth, improved fruit production and fruit quality.
- Coordinate and participate in soil fertility programs, including mixing and applying fertilizers as required.
- Supervise and participate in crop spraying and irrigation activities.
- Supervise the use and maintenance of tractors, sprayers, fertilizer applicators, irrigation systems, harvesters, forklifts and small-engine equipment.
- Supervise maintenance of farm equipment, tools, supplies and orchard infrastructure.




- Monitor crop health and quality and ensure established production procedures are followed.
- Ensure farm safety, food safety, security and biosecurity procedures are followed.
- Maintain quality-control, production, work and equipment records and logs.
- Assist with hiring and training farm workers.
- Perform other general farm duties as required.

Requirements

- Experience in apple, plum and/or cherry orchard production.
- Experience working with and supervising farm workers.
- Experience with pruning, tree training, deleafing, fertilizing, spraying, irrigation and harvesting.
- Ability to safely operate and maintain agricultural machinery and equipment.
- First Aid Certificate.
- Pesticide Applicator's Licence.
- Ability to organize daily work and maintain accurate production and work records.
