Sucro Can Canada

Canada

Company Overview

Sucro Can Canada Inc. is a leader in the sugar refining industry. Sucro is the first sugar refinery in Canada to open its doors in more than 60 years. With offices in the United States, Mexico, Colombia, and Trinidad & Tobago, we pride ourselves on efficient operational models and continued growth. Sucro strives to remain a rapidly growing and dynamic sugar trade partner for sugar mills, processors, distributors and industrial customers.

Job Summary

We are seeking one (1) experienced Senior Packaging Line Technician with 5 to 10 years
of hands-on industrial packaging experience. This role ensures maximum uptime, sanitary compliance, and optimal speed across automated production lines packaging refined sugar into 4 lb retail bags, as well as 50 lb and 25 kg commercial bags. You will lead mechanical
maintenance, bag-sealing overhauls, sensor calibration, HMI adjustments, and
end-of-line ABB robotic cell servicing in a dry, food-grade processing environment.

Key Responsibilities

SUGAR BAGGING & SEALING MAINTENANCE

- Execute preventive maintenance, emergency repairs, and mechanical overhauls on specialized dry-sugar filling and closing machinery: Sugar Fillers & Feeders: High-speed net-weigh scales, multi-head weighers, auger fillers, and rotary sugar bag packers handling 4 lb consumer packs up to 50 lb and 25 kg valve/open-mouth commercial bags. Bag Sealers & Closers:Hot-melt glue applicators (Nordson), ultrasonic sealers, pinch-top bag closers, hot air sealers, and high-speed sewing/stitching heads (Fischbein/Union Special) designed for dust-controlled, sift-proof paper and poly bag seals. Conveyors & Bag Preparation: Vibratory settling feeders, inclines, high-speed belt conveyors, bag turners, flatteners, squarers, and transfer stations leading to palletizing zones.
- Rebuild pneumatic drives,

dust-extraction shrouds, metering gates, vibratory pans, gearboxes, and mechanical linkages worn by abrasive sugar dust.ABB ROBOTIC PALLETIZING & AUTOMATION
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair end-of-line ABB robotic palletizing cells and automated stretch wrappers.
- Inspect, service, and adjust ABB End-of-Arm Tooling (EOAT)—including vacuum cup arrays, mechanical clamshell grippers, and slip-sheet suction mechanisms—to ensure precise, damage-free bag handling.
- Perform ABB teach pendant manipulations to reset robot faults, clear cell safety stops, adjust pick-and-place trajectories, and recover from bag drop errors.
- Service ABB robot drive belts, gearboxes, cable carriers (dress packs), safety fencing light curtains, interlocks, and pallet dispenser magazine mechanics.CONTROLS, SENSORS & HMI ADJUSTMENTS
- Calibrate and align optical photo-eyes, proximity sensors, bag-present switches, safety light curtains, and strain-gauge scale load cells.
- Access and navigate Human-Machine Interfaces (HMIs) to adjust machine timing changeover recipes (4 lb vs. 50 lb / 25 kg runs), tune fill weights, modify pallet pattern layouts, adjust glue pattern outputs, and reset line alarm faults.
- Perform low-voltage 24VDC control and up to 600VAC 3-phase electrical troubleshooting using schematics and digital multimeter

FOOD SAFETY & PLANT COMPLIANCE

- Maintain strict adherence to food safety standards,

including Canadian FoodInspection Agency (CFIA) guidelines, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and HACCP sanitation rules.
- Perform sanitary maintenance procedures to prevent sugar dust buildup, moisture contamination, and pest risks on packaging machinery and ABB robotic cells.
- Follow Ontario Health and Safety Act (OHSA) guidelines, including strict Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) and ABB robot safety zone entry protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

- 5 to 10 years of direct hands-on maintenance experience servicing automated bag filling, closing, sealing, and robotic packaging lines—experience in dry food/powder processing (sugar, flour, starch) strongly preferred.
- ABB Robotics Expertise: Direct operational experience troubleshooting ABB industrial robotic palletizers, ABB Flex Pendant navigation, and mechanical/pneumatic EOAT repair.

Technical Skills

- Expert mechanical troubleshooting on bag sealers (hot-melt glue systems, heat sealers, and sewing heads).
- Practical experience operating and adjusting HMIs (Allen-Bradley PanelView, Siemens SIMATIC, etc.) for recipe changes, scale calibrations, and pallet patterns.
- Solid understanding of pneumatic controls, vacuum pumps/generators, air cylinders, and dust-collection ducting.
- Electrical diagnostics up to 600V and sensor alignment (photoelectric, load cells, safety light curtains).

Education & Trade Skills

- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- Ontario Industrial Mechanic Millwright (433A), Industrial Electrician (442A/309A), or Mechatronics Diploma preferred.
