Ketek Group Inc:
From its 10 locations in Western and Northern Canada, Ketek Group provides services and rental equipment to clients throughout the region’s oil and gas, mining, construction, and municipal sectors.
WHY THIS ROLE MATTERS:
Our HR team supports a busy, growing, operational business, and we are looking for an experienced HR Generalist who enjoys working closely with people and being part of the day-to-day rhythm of the organization.
Recruitment will be a significant part of the role, but your day will rarely be limited to one area of HR. You may move from screening candidates to helping an employee navigate a workplace concern, supporting a leader with a difficult conversation, coordinating a leave, working on an HR project, or responding to an immediate team need.
We are a small, collaborative HR team where everyone has their own responsibilities, but we also step in and help where needed to keep the team and business moving. That includes occasional reception and front-office coverage during breaks or absences, supporting another department when needed, or taking on something that may not fall neatly within your usual responsibilities.
This is a full-time, in-office position based at Ketek’s Edmonton Head Office. Being visible, approachable, and connected to employees and leaders is an significant part of the role.
IS THIS OPPORTUNITY RIGHT FOR YOU?
- You genuinely enjoy working with people and are comfortable connecting with employees, leaders, candidates, and visitors
- You enjoy broad generalist HR work and variety in your day
- You can listen to someone who is frustrated or upset, remain calm and respectful, and still provide clear and practical guidance
- You take ownership of your work and follow things through without needing repeated reminders
- You are comfortable researching what you do not know, developing practical solutions, and recognizing when something needs to be escalated
- You build strong relationships while maintaining appropriate professional boundaries
- You can manage changing priorities and frequent interruptions without losing track of commitments
- You do not just follow existing processes - you look for practical, creative ways to improve how we work, strengthen the employee experience, and contribute to a better HR function and workplace culture
- You want to continue developing your HR capability and are open to taking on broader responsibilities as you grow within the organization
- Confidentiality, professionalism, judgment, and follow-through are important to how you work
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
- Manage full-cycle recruitment for assigned positions, including postings, screening, interviews, offers, pre-employment requirements, and onboarding
- Work closely with hiring leaders to understand staffing needs and keep recruitment moving in a fast-paced environment
- Support employees and leaders with attendance, performance concerns, progressive discipline, workplace concerns, and other employee relations matters
- Coordinate employee leaves, benefits-related processes, offboarding, and other employee lifecycle activities
- Maintain accurate and confidential HR records, correspondence, and HRIS/ATS information
- Support performance management, training, competency programs, policies, and HR initiatives
- Contribute to HR projects including process improvement, employee engagement, compliance, compensation and benefits reviews, and policy development
- Provide reception and front-office coverage as required during breaks, absences, and other short-term coverage needs
- Support other team and organizational priorities when needed
WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE:
Employees see you as approachable, professional, and trustworthy. Leaders know that when something is handed to you, it will move forward.
You build relationships across the organization while maintaining sound professional boundaries. You know when to listen, when to ask questions, when to provide direction, and when a matter needs additional support.
Your work stays organized and moving even when priorities shift. Employee matters do not fall through the cracks, your documentation is accurate,
and you communicate early when something requires attention.
As you learn Ketek, you become increasingly confident handling matters independently, take on broader responsibilities, and are known as someone who brings practical solutions rather than simply identifying problems.
THE REALITIES OF THE ROLE:
- Recruitment will be a significant and ongoing part of your workload
- Some days will involve several competing priorities and frequent interruptions
- You will regularly interact with employees, supervisors, managers, candidates, visitors, and other departments
- Some situations will be sensitive, or require difficult conversations
- Relationship management matters
- You will be part of a small HR team where everyone pitches in, including providing reception coverage when needed
- This is an in-office position in Edmonton and is not a remote or hybrid role
WHAT YOU NEED:
- Post-secondary diploma or degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field
- Minimum 4+ years of progressive Human Resources experience in a generalist capacity
- Demonstrated full-cycle recruitment experience, including managing multiple vacancies simultaneously
- Practical employee relations experience, including performance, attendance, discipline, workplace concerns, and sensitive employee situations
- Strong working knowledge of Alberta employment legislation and HR best practices
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the confidence to work effectively with employees and leaders at different levels
- Sound judgment, discretion, and professionalism when handling confidential matters
- Strong organization, prioritization, problem-solving, and follow-through
- Ability to work independently while recognizing when additional guidance is required
- Experience with HRIS, Applicant Tracking Systems, and Microsoft Office
WHAT WOULD BE AN ASSET:
- CPHR designation or currently working toward designation
- Experience in industrial services, construction, oil and gas, field operations, or a similar operational environment
- Experience supporting employees across multiple Canadian jurisdictions
- Experience with workplace employee relations management, disability and leave management, recruitment, and HR project work
- Experience with Payworks or a comparable HRIS/payroll system
