Sunny Spot Child, Youth & Family Counselling is a growing private practice in Port Coquitlam, BC, and we’re looking for a dedicated Child, Youth & Family Counsellor to join our team!

At Sunny Spot, we believe that every child deserves to feel seen, heard, understood, and supported. Our practice is grounded in relational, play-based, neurodiversity-affirming, and strengths-based approaches that recognize each child’s individuality.

We strive to create a warm, welcoming, and collaborative environment where children, youth, and their families feel comfortable being themselves.

Whether you’re an experienced counsellor or a recent graduate beginning your clinical career, we’d love to hear from you!

New graduates are encouraged to apply! We especially welcome applicants with previous experience working with children and youth, including those with a background in Behaviour Intervention (BI).

Why Join Sunny Spot?

We want our counsellors to feel supported, valued, and excited about the work they do.

Here’s what we offer:

- Competitive Compensation
- Referrals & Caseload Growth: We actively market our practice and support our counsellors in building a consistent and sustainable caseload.
- Welcoming Therapeutic Environment: A furnished, child-friendly counselling space designed to support meaningful and engaging therapeutic work.
- Administrative & Practice Support: Access to Jane practice management software for scheduling, billing, and managing appointments.
- Collaborative Team Culture: Opportunities for skilled connection, clinical consultation, and shared learning.
- Clinical Independence: The freedom to bring your own therapeutic approach, creativity, and expertise into your sessions.
- Professional Growth: Opportunities to develop your clinical skills, expand your experience, and grow alongside our practice.
- Long-Term Opportunity: The chance to establish meaningful therapeutic relationships and become part of a growing child, youth, and family counselling practice.

We aim to create an environment where you can focus on what matters most: providing meaningful, compassionate care to the children, teens, and families you support.

What You’ll Do

- Provide individual counselling services to children and adolescents, as well as parent coaching and family counselling within your scope of competence.
- Support children and youth experiencing anxiety, ADHD, autism-related support needs, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, school-related concerns, family transitions, and relationship difficulties.
- Develop individualized treatment plans that reflect each client’s developmental needs, strengths, and therapeutic goals.
- Incorporate developmentally appropriate, evidence-informed approaches, including play-based, relational, creative, cognitive-behavioural, and other therapeutic interventions as appropriate.
- Collaborate with parents and caregivers to support their child’s therapeutic progress while maintaining appropriate confidentiality and professional boundaries.
- Build meaningful therapeutic relationships with children, youth, and their families.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation and treatment records.
- Practise in accordance with applicable professional standards, ethical guidelines, privacy legislation, and informed consent requirements.
- Participate in clinical consultation and professional collaboration when appropriate.

What We’re Looking For

Required Qualifications:

- Master’s degree in counselling, counselling psychology, social work, or a closely related clinical field.
- Current professional designation, such as Registered Clinical Counsellor (RCC) with BCACC, Canadian Certified Counsellor (CCC) with CCPA, or Registered Social Worker (RSW) with BCCSW, or eligibility to obtain the appropriate credential before beginning clinical services.
- A genuine passion and energy for working with children, teens, and families.
- Knowledge of child and adolescent development, emotional regulation, neurodiversity, and family dynamics.
- A compassionate, collaborative, client-centred, and neurodiversity-affirming therapeutic approach.
- Strong communication, organizational, and clinical documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively with families and other professionals.
- Professional liability insurance appropriate to your clinical practice.
- Ability to successfully complete applicable criminal record screening requirements.
