General Labourer – Warehouse (Sugar Refinery)

Job Title: General Labourer
Location: Hamilton, ON
Hours: Rotating continental schedule consisting of 12-hour shifts. Days & Nights
Starting Wage: $21.99 per hour
Night Shift Premium: Additional$2.00/hour

Job Summary

The General Labourer is responsible for supporting daily warehouse, shipping, and receiving operations within a sugar refinery. This position involves handling, moving, staging, loading, and unloading materials and finished sugar products while maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work environment. The successful candidate will follow established food safety, quality, health and safety, and operational procedures to support the efficient movement and storage of products.

We are looking for three (3) experienced and skilled General Labourers for our facility in Hamilton, Ontario.

Key Responsibilities

Shipping, Receiving & Product Handling

- Assist with loading outgoing liquid and granular sugar products.
- Prepare orders involving 1,000 kg sugar totes, including palletizing products, wrapping pallets, and securing loads for transportation.
- Support warehouse inventory activities, including stock rotation and the proper storage of materials.
- Move raw materials, packaging supplies, pallets, and finished products using appropriate material-handling equipment.




- Operate forklifts and other warehouse equipment when properly trained, authorized, and certified as required.
- Communicate with production, warehouse, and transportation personnel to coordinate the movement of materials and products.

Housekeeping, Sanitation & Food Safety

- Follow all applicable food safety, hygiene, sanitation, and product-handling procedure
- Maintain clean and organized warehouse, shipping and receiving areas, and loading docks to prevent product contamination.
- Operate industrial cleaning equipment, including floor scrubbers and pressure washers.
- Follow established procedures for waste disposal and the handling of damaged or rejected products.
- Promptly report damaged packaging, potential product contamination, pest activity, spills, and other quality concerns.

General Labour & Operational Support

- Perform manual handling, lifting, stacking, and other general labour duties as required.
- Assist with maintaining a protected, clean, and organized work setting.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor or department manager.

Qualifications

- High school diploma or equivalent is considered an asset.
- Previous experience in manufacturing or food processing is an asset but not required.
- Forklift Certifcate
- Ability to work in a rapid-paced production environment.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to food safety and quality.
- Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
- Good communication skills.

Working Conditions

- Work performed primarily in production and warehouse areas.
- Physically demanding role requiring regular movement and manual labour.
- Exposure to dust, noise, industrial equipment, and varying temperatures.
