About Brilliant Minds

Brilliant Minds Counselling and Therapy Centre is a growing multidisciplinary counselling and therapy clinic in London, Ontario. We are committed to providing compassionate, individualized care that helps people better understand themselves, navigate challenges and make meaningful changes in their lives.

We are expanding our services to include substance use and addictions counselling for adults through an emerging partnership supporting individuals in remote communities and workplace settings across Northern Ontario.

We are looking for a skilled, compassionate clinician who is passionate about helping individuals navigate substance use challenges and build healthier, more sustainable lives.

About the Opportunity

This is an opportunity to provide virtual addictions counselling to adults who may be experiencing challenges related to alcohol, cannabis, opioids, stimulants, prescription medications or other substances.

Clients may be referred through a workplace-based support program and may be navigating the effects of substance use on their employment, relationships, mental health and overall well-being.

The successful candidate will provide individualized, evidence-informed counselling in a non-judgmental and supportive environment. They will help clients explore their relationship with substances, identify personal goals, develop coping strategies and access additional supports when needed.

This is a virtual position, offering flexibility while expanding access to counselling for individuals who may have limited access to services in their communities.

Key Responsibilities

- Provide virtual individual counselling to adults experiencing substance use and addiction-related concerns.

- Conduct initial assessments, including substance use history, presenting concerns, strengths, treatment goals and relevant risk factors.
- Develop individualized treatment plans based on each client's needs, preferences and readiness for change.
- Apply evidence-informed approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), harm reduction and relapse prevention.
- Support clients in developing coping strategies, managing triggers and cravings, and making meaningful changes to their substance use.
- Recognize when clients require additional medical, psychiatric, withdrawal management or community-based supports, and facilitate appropriate referrals.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation in accordance with professional standards and clinic policies.
- Follow established protocols for informed consent, confidentiality, risk assessment, crisis response and virtual service delivery.
- Collaborate with other professionals when appropriate and with the client's informed consent.
- Participate in the development of clinical protocols and resources as the addictions counselling program grows.

- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited university.

- Knowledge of evidence-informed addictions treatment approaches, including Motivational Interviewing, CBT, harm reduction and relapse prevention.
- Ability to conduct clinical assessments, establish treatment goals and recognize when referrals to higher levels of care are necessary.
- Strong clinical judgment, professional boundaries and commitment to ethical practice.
- Experience delivering virtual counselling and the ability to provide services securely and confidentially.
- A private, reliable workspace and appropriate technology for virtual sessions.
