BUILD

Winnipeg

Some jobs are mostly about paperwork. This one is mostly about people.

BUILD is looking for a Care Planner - Culture and Support who can build real relationships with trainees, help people work through barriers, connect them with the right supports, and help make BUILD a place where people feel they belong.

A little about BUILD

BUILD is an Indigenous non-profit social enterprise and paid training program in Winnipeg. Since 2006, more than 1,000 people facing barriers to employment have come through BUILD to gain construction skills, work experience and a pathway into lasting employment.

What will you actually do?

- Get to know people. Manage a caseload, meet regularly with trainees and build practical support plans with them - not for them.
- Help solve real-life problems. Connect trainees with housing, income, food, transportation, health, wellness, family, justice, education and employment supports, and follow up so referrals do not disappear into a void.
- Help people stay connected to BUILD. Take part in intake, orientation, case meetings, re-engagement and transition planning, and respond early when barriers start affecting attendance or participation.
- Bring people together. Lead short, engaging sessions on culture, wellness, life skills, community resources or other topics that fit your experience. We want useful conversation, not a lecture.
- Strengthen culture and community connection. Help coordinate cultural activities and work respectfully with Elders, Kookums, Knowledge Keepers, cultural facilitators and community partners.
- Keep the details organized. Maintain clear case notes, support plans, referral information and program data, and handle confidential information carefully.

You might be a excellent fit if...

- You build trust without judging people and listen before jumping to solutions.
- You can be compassionate while still holding healthy boundaries.
- You know how to navigate community resources and are comfortable making the call, sending the referral and following up.
- You stay calm when somebody else's day is not going well.
- You enjoy both one-on-one conversations and facilitating a group.
- You believe people deserve meaningful opportunities, even when their path has not been straightforward.

What we are looking for

We value a combination of education, experience and lived knowledge. That could include social work, Indigenous studies, case management, community development, counselling support, human services or related work.

- A relevant certificate or diploma plus at least one year of related experience, or at least three years of comparable experience.
- Experience supporting people facing multiple barriers, including people who have had contact with corrections, probation, parole or the justice system.
- Strong knowledge of Indigenous histories, cultures and contemporary realities, with cultural humility and respect for diverse Nations and teachings.
- Knowledge of Indigenous and community resources in Winnipeg.
- Experience facilitating groups or workshops, plus strong listening, advocacy and de-escalation skills.
- Good organization, documentation and computer skills,

including comfort with Microsoft 365 and program databases.
- A valid Manitoba Class 5 driver's licence and willingness to complete the required Child Abuse Registry Check processes.

Even better if you bring...

- First Nations, Metis or Inuit identity; relevant lived experience; community relationships; cultural knowledge and/or an Indigenous language.
- Connections with Indigenous organizations, Winnipeg service providers, cultural supports or justice and reintegration partners.
- Training in trauma-informed practice, motivational interviewing, mental health first aid, suicide intervention, non-violent crisis intervention or harm reduction.

You do not need every item on this list. If this sounds like work you would be good at, we want to hear from you.

Why BUILD?
