Overview

In this role, you will be the face of our waste diversion area, providing welcoming and friendly customer service. Your primary goal is to guide residents on where and how to properly dispose of their waste, helping us maximize recycling and keep hazardous materials out of the landfill.

This is a short-term, 2-to-4-week project starting in mid-November, but successful candidates who show outstanding reliability and a strong work ethic will be considered for ongoing, casual general labour and litter-picking shifts across our local sites.

Core Responsibilities

- Greet members of the public with a friendly, positive attitude and provide clear directions on where and how to safely unload and sort their waste.
- Actively assist customers in identifying recyclable, compostable, or reusable materials to maximize resource recovery and diversion away from the landfill.
- Ensure a smooth, safe, and organized flow of vehicles and pedestrians on the facility floor and drop-off zones.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe environment by picking up loose debris and managing localized litter.

Working Conditions

- This position is entirely outdoors. You must be comfortable working in all weather conditions, including exposure to cold late-autumn/winter temperatures.
- Requires standing for extended periods, walking across uneven terrain, and occasional light lifting.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills with a customer-first mindset.
- Reliability, punctuality, and a strong commitment to safety protocols.
- Reliable transportation to travel to our Kamloops area sites (Mission Flats, KRRC, and Barnhartvale).
- Previous experience in customer service, waste management, or outdoor general labour is an asset but not required.
