Senior Operational Bookkeeper - Part-Time / Fractional

Remote within Canada | Calgary preferred | 5-10 hours/week | $50-$70 CAD/hour

About TransRockies

TransRockies produces outdoor endurance events in distinctive destinations across Canada and the United States. Our accounting environment includes multiple entities, Canadian and U.S. operations, multiple currencies, seasonal activity, event registration systems, sponsorships and varied revenue streams.

As our business evolves, we are restructuring our accounting function to create greater capacity and clearer ownership of day-to-day financial processes. We are seeking an experienced operational bookkeeper who can work collaboratively with our team and gradually take ownership of a significant portion of our full-cycle bookkeeping and accounting processes.

The Role

This is more than a data-entry bookkeeping position. We are looking for someone who is comfortable working in the details while also identifying opportunities to improve accounting systems, processes, reporting and cash-flow visibility.

The role will initially average approximately 5-10 hours per week, with seasonal variation and potential to grow into a larger part-time position for the right person.

Key Responsibilities

- Full-cycle bookkeeping and ongoing review of accounting records
- Bank, credit card, petty cash and balance-sheet reconciliations
- Maintain and reconcile inter-company accounts, including Canadian/U.S. and CAD/USD transactions
- Accounts receivable, invoicing and support for accounts payable processes
- Event revenue accounting and reconciliation of registration and operational systems to QuickBooks Online
- Maintain capital asset and loan schedules and related entries
- Support Canadian GST and payroll-related accounting and compliance
- Manage and improve QuickBooks Online, including chart of accounts, Classes and workflows
- Support budgeting, management reporting and year-end preparation

- Collaborate with management to maintain rolling cash-flow forecasts, from near-term requirements to projections up to 12 months ahead
- Proactively identify potential cash constraints, upcoming requirements, timing issues and material variances
- Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, efficiency and financial reporting
- Collaborate with management, administrative staff and external accountants

Required Experience

- Significant hands-on Canadian full-cycle bookkeeping experience
- Advanced QuickBooks Online knowledge
- Strong understanding of accrual accounting
- Canadian GST and payroll accounting experience
- Strong reconciliation and Excel skills
- Ability to independently investigate and resolve accounting discrepancies
- Ability to work effectively in a primarily remote environment

Strongly Preferred

- Multi-entity and inter-company accounting experience
- CAD/USD foreign exchange experience
- Experience with QuickBooks Online Classes
- Experience reconciling revenue from third-party transaction, registration or e-commerce systems
- Experience with seasonal, project-based or event-driven businesses
- Experience maintaining rolling cash-flow forecasts and improving management reporting
- Recognized bookkeeping/accounting credential or relevant post-secondary education; substantial directly relevant experience will also be considered

Event-industry experience is not required.

What Success Looks Like

We are looking for someone who will take ownership of the quality of the books, maintain a critical eye on cash flow and overall financial position, ask good questions,

and develop a strong understanding of our business.

Success means accurate and current books throughout the year, reconciled inter-company accounts, reliable management reporting, strong cash-flow visibility, and accounting issues or potential cash constraints being identified early.

Location & Working Arrangement

This position can be performed remotely from anywhere in Canada. Calgary-area candidates are preferred because occasional in-person meetings and work with physical records may be beneficial, but Calgary residency is not required.

Target compensation is $50-$70 CAD/hour, depending on experience, capabilities and engagement structure. We value experience and efficiency over simply accumulating hours.

This is intended to be a long-term position, initially averaging approximately 5-10 hours per week, with potential for the role and hours to expand over time.

How to Apply

Please submit a resume or qualified profile and a brief introduction outlining your relevant experience, location, general availability, preferred contractor or employment arrangement, and expected hourly rate.

We are particularly interested in hearing about complex accounting environments you have personally managed and examples where you have improved accounting processes or financial visibility.

Pay: $50.00-$70.00 per hour

Expected hours: 5.0 – 10.0 per week

Benefits:

- Flexible schedule
- Work from home
