About the Civic Youth Fellowship
The Civic Youth Fellowship (CYF) is a leadership development program led by IslamicFamily’s youth initiative, The Green Room, and the City of Edmonton. Now in its fifth year, the Fellowship connects emerging leaders from underrepresented communities with paid placements inside municipal government, along with mentorship, pre-placement training, and a youth-led project. IslamicFamily co-funds the Fellowship and leads each cohort from recruitment to the final Showcase, with support from the City of Edmonton, and Canadian Race Relations Foundation. Last year, more than 250 young people applied.
Position Summary
The CYF Alumni Associate will support the planning, coordination, and delivery of the Fellowship, helping the team and Fellows meet their goals throughout the program. Responsibilities include supporting recruitment and onboarding, coordinating the pre-placement training series and Speed Networking event, contributing to the annual Fellowship Showcase, and assisting with program communications that highlight Fellows’ stories and civic impact. Through these responsibilities, the successful candidate will help create a positive and meaningful experience for each cohort while gaining hands-on experience in program coordination, event planning, communications, and youth leadership development.
This part-time position is designed for CYF alumni who have successfully completed all Fellowship requirements and wish to remain engaged with the program by supporting and mentoring incoming Fellows. It offers an opportunity to build on their Fellowship experience, develop new skills in program delivery, and contribute to the continued success of the CYF community. The ideal candidate is organized, resourceful, and community-minded, with a passion for youth leadership and civic engagement. They are comfortable managing competing priorities, building positive relationships across cultures and lived experiences, and supporting others in turning their goals into action.
Your Impact
As a CYF alum, you’ll bring your experience to a new cohort of Fellows while helping create a welcoming environment where every participant feels supported, prepared, and valued. You’ll draw on your experience and skills to help the next cohort of Fellows thrive, build meaningful connections, and see themselves reflected in civic life in Edmonton.
Your contribution will help:

- Create a sense of belonging by building relationships with Fellows, answering questions, sharing resources, and helping participants feel connected throughout the program.

- Amplify youth voices and civic impact by gathering Fellows’ stories, documenting their contributions, and helping share their experiences with the broader community.
- Strengthen the program for future cohorts by maintaining accurate records, tracking participation, organizing resources, and helping the team identify opportunities for improvement.
Through this role, you’ll build practical skills in program coordination, event planning, communications, and mentorship while helping more young people—especially those from underrepresented communities—find meaningful pathways into civic life. Your impact will be felt both in the smooth running of the Fellowship and in the confidence, connections,
and opportunities it creates for the young leaders who take part.

- Non-profit leadership and social impact: Learn how community initiatives are coordinated, evaluated, and strengthened to create meaningful change.
You’ll work alongside experienced program leads, community partners, and civic leaders while contributing to an initiative that creates opportunities for young people across Edmonton.
