Job Description:

We are looking for an Intermediate Accountant to join an engineering organization in Vancouver, British Columbia on a Contract basis. This contract prospect is well suited to a detail-oriented accounting specialist who can step into month-end and year-end activities, strengthen general ledger accuracy, and investigate financial variances with confidence. The assignment is expected to run for approximately 4 to 6 weeks, with the possibility of continuing through the early December reporting period. This role offers the chance to contribute independently while supporting critical accounting deliverables in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities:

- Support month-end and year-end accounting activities, with particular attention to maintaining the integrity of the general ledger.
- Reconcile balance sheet and general ledger accounts, verify supporting details, and ensure financial records are complete and accurate.
- Analyze fluctuations in account activity, research irregular items, and resolve discrepancies through timely follow-up.
- Examine liability balances and related documentation to help prepare accurate year-end financial information.
- Investigate accounting concerns by identifying root causes and recommending practical corrections where needed.




- Provide occasional assistance with accounts payable and accounts receivable reviews, focusing on exception handling and issue resolution rather than volume processing.
- Organize and prepare required financial data to help meet early December year-end submission deadlines.
- Contribute to the review and assessment of accounting software options, including participation in testing and evaluation activities if required.

Requirements:

- Previous experience in an intermediate-level accounting role with hands-on involvement in month-end and year-end close activities.
- Solid understanding of general ledger reconciliations, account analysis, and liability review procedures.
- Demonstrated ability to perform variance analysis and investigate unusual balances or transactions thoroughly.
- Strong analytical skills with a detail-oriented approach to identifying and resolving accounting discrepancies.
- Ability to work independently and manage priorities effectively with limited supervision.
- Familiarity with accounts payable and accounts receivable processes in a support or review capacity.
- Experience with accounting systems, or an interest in assisting with software evaluation and testing, would be considered an asset.
