Optometric Assistant – Maternity Leave Coverage

Job Type: Temporary, Full-time (Maternity Leave Coverage – approximately 8 months, with potential for future opportunities)

Expected hours: 32 per week
Location: Alberta, Canada
Hours: 32 hours per week (4 days/week, 8 hours/day)

Wage: $18–$21 per hour, depending on experience
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday 9:00 am–5:30 pm, plus one late Thursday until 7:00 pm
Start Date: November 2026
No weekends

Job Description

Eyes in Town is looking for a friendly and motivated Optometric Assistant to join our team on a temporary basis while one of our valued team members is on maternity leave. This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working with people, has strong communication skills, and is interested in learning more about eye care.

Experience in an optometry or healthcare setting is an asset but not required—we are happy to train the right candidate.

Responsibilities

- Greet patients in a professional, welcoming manner
- Answer phones and schedule appointments
- Process insurance claims and manage patient recalls
- Perform pre-testing before eye exams
- Conduct additional testing such as retinal photography, OCT, and visual field testing
- Assist patients with frame styling and lens selection




- Support other team members as needed
- Complete opening and closing duties and assist with general office cleaning
