Evening Kitchen Hand — Get Your Start in a Skilled Kitchen Shifts start at 4:30 p.m. and continue through evening service and closing. Weekend and holiday availability is required. Want your first kitchen job? At Fence & Post, you can gain hands-on experience, learn from skilled cooks and become an important part of a team that makes its food from scratch. No previous kitchen experience is required—we’ll teach you, but you need to bring effort, reliability and a willingness to learn. This is demanding, hands-on work. Shifts are busy and physical. You’ll be on your feet, handling dirty dishes, scrubbing equipment and working around water and food waste. You’ll get wet and dirty at times, and the work keeps coming during service. If you enjoy staying active, working with a team and seeing the results of your effort, this could be a great fit. Speed, attention to detail, organization and cleanliness matter equally. Moving quickly only helps if the job is done properly: no dirty dishes put away, no wet litre containers stacked on shelves and no unfinished cleaning left for the next person. What You’ll Do:
- Wash and sanitize dishes, pots, pans, utensils and kitchen equipment, keeping up with service.
- Check every item before putting it away and rewash anything that isn’t completely clean.
- Make sure litre containers, lids and other food-storage containers are thoroughly dry before stacking and storing them.
- Put everything in its proper place and keep shelves, workspaces and storage areas organized.
- Keep the dishwashing area clean and sanitary throughout your shift.
- Prioritize tasks and keep work moving when it gets busy.
- Transfer food into smaller containers as needed, following instructions for food safety, labelling and storage.
- Unpack deliveries, rotate stock and restock kitchen supplies.
- Complete evening cleaning duties, including scrubbing equipment, sinks, shelving and floors.




- Remove garbage, recycling and organics, and clean waste containers.
- Complete the closing checklist and leave your areas clean, sanitary, organized and ready for the next shift.
- Help with basic food preparation and other kitchen tasks as directed. What You’ll Bring:
- Evening availability: Be ready to start at 4:30 p.m. and work through closing.
- Weekend and holiday availability: These are required working days for this position.
- Effort and reliability: Show up on time, ready to work, and follow through on your responsibilities.
- An eye for detail: Notice food residue, wet containers, misplaced equipment and missed cleaning—and fix them.
- A steady pace: Work with purpose and keep moving while maintaining our standards.
- A willingness to learn: Listen to instructions, accept corrections respectfully and apply what you’re taught.
- Teamwork: Communicate clearly, ask when you’re unsure and help others when your priorities are covered.
- Pride in your work: Check your results without waiting for someone else to point out what was missed.
- Ability to work on your feet for extended periods and safely lift and move items weighing at least 20 pounds. What You’ll Get:
