Sense Engineering is a growing multidisciplinary engineering consultancy with more than 130 employees across North America. The business provides structural, mechanical, electrical, building envelope, restoration, capital planning, accessibility and energy optimization services. They offer a collaborative environment where engineers are encouraged to take ownership, develop client relationships and progress into greater technical and project leadership responsibilities.
As an Intermediate Electrical Design Engineer based in Ottawa, you will work on a variety of electrical building systems projects from initial assessment and scope development through design, construction and completion.
You will be responsible for electrical distribution, lighting and controls, emergency power, life-safety and fire alarm systems, building renewals and retrofits, feasibility studies and energy optimization. You will prepare drawings, specifications, reports and cost estimates, conduct site reviews and coordinate designs with architectural, mechanical, structural and civil teams.
This position offers the opportunity to move beyond a purely production-focused role, taking greater ownership of projects, working directly with clients, supporting proposals and fee development, and mentoring junior engineers and designers.
You will have a degree in Electrical Engineering or certification as an Electrical Engineering Technologist,
along with approximately 5–10 years of experience working with electrical building systems.
You should have robust knowledge of electrical and building codes, experience preparing coordinated drawings, specifications and technical reports, and proficiency with AutoCAD. Experience with Revit, BIM and electrical analysis software would be an asset.
Registration, or active progress towards registration, with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO) is preferred, while OIQ membership would be an asset. You will receive a base salary of $85,000–$105,000, depending on experience, plus profit-sharing bonuses that typically increase estimated total compensation by approximately 10–20%.
Sense Engineering also offers a comprehensive benefits package, including a Health Care Spending Account and Wellness Account, professional development opportunities, regular social events and the potential to purchase shares in the company as your career develops.
Most importantly, this is an opportunity to take the next step from electrical design into greater project leadership, client management and mentoring responsibility, while working within a supportive and growing engineering team.
