The Histology Assistant has two separate functions: one to supply support functions to pathologists in the performance of postmortem examinations; and the other is to participate in the technical work of the Histology Division of the Department.

Duties include:

- Autopsy duties;




- Gross specimen examination duties;
- Histology technical duties;
- Histology clerical duties;
- Other related duties as required.

Minimum Qualifications:

- Must have successful completion of grade 12.
- Considerable experience working in a laboratory or hospital setting is required.
- Significant knowledge of human anatomy and physiology and of medical terminology.
- Must be capable of heavy lifting and multitasking efficiently and accurately in a busy work environment.
- Computer skills in Window based programs and data entry experience is essential.
- Previous experience in assisting with autopsy procedures or be willing to observe a complete autopsy session to confirm level of tolerance, is required.
- Must have a good previous work and attendance record.

Other Qualifications:

- Equivalent education with relevant laboratory training will be considered.
- Experience working with the Anatomic Pathology component of the Cerner Millenium Information System would be considered an asset.
- Preference may be afforded to certified Medical Laboratory Assistants (CSMLS).
- Additional relevant education and experience will be considered an asset.

Salary Range: $31.84 – $34.48per hour

Bi-Weekly Hours: On Demand / Days as Needed Including Holidays
