Summary

With direction from a teacher, the Education Assistant supports individual students and small groups with academic and behavioural activities in accordance with education plans. The role also includes monitoring students during unstructured times.

Duties

- Support students with health procedures, life skills, communication activities, and specific academic or behavioural practice.
- Assist with instructional materials, note-taking, tests, assignments, and student records.
- Monitor student behaviour and safety, report concerns, and supervise students during breaks, school activities, and bus transfers as assigned.
- Accompany students to community activities and assist with school events and field trips.




- Administer medication as assigned and attend to minor injuries.

Qualifications

- Grade 12 education and six college or university courses related to learning or behavioural issues in children or youth.
- One year of related experience supporting children or youth with exceptional needs in a school, hospital, or recognized community agency.
- Ability to follow individualized education plans, perform child-specific behaviour management techniques, maintain confidentiality, and work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A valid British Columbia driver's licence may be required.
