- Identify applicable requirements under Part 9 of the Nova Scotia Building Code and the National Building Code of Canada that may affect project costs.
Site Assessments and Project Coordination
- Conduct site visits and inspections to assess existing conditions, document site-specific challenges,

Estimating Systems and Documentation
- Use estimating software and internal tools to develop detailed project estimates and prepare formal construction contracts that accurately reflect the approved scope of work.
- Maintain and update estimating databases, cost catalogues, unit pricing,
and standard assemblies to ensure accuracy and consistency.
- Maintain organized records of estimates, bids, takeoffs, contracts, and supporting documentation.
- Ensure accurate data entry and consistent estimating practices to minimize cost variances during construction.
- Stay informed about industry developments, construction methods, materials, regulations, and estimating technologies.
Qualifications and Key Competencies
- Education or training in construction management, engineering, architecture, or a related field.
- Proven experience in residential construction estimating, preferably within a renovation or design-build workplace.
- Strong understanding of residential construction methods, materials, labour requirements, and applicable building codes.
- Ability to read and interpret architectural drawings, structural plans, blueprints, and technical specifications.
- Proficiency in construction estimating and material takeoff software.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
- Experience with Buildertrend or similar construction management software is a strong asset.
- Excellent analytical, mathematical, and problem-solving abilities.
- Strong communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
- Exceptional organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects and meet strict tender deadlines.
- High attention to detail and a commitment to producing accurate, reliable estimates.
- Willingness and ability to travel to project sites and meet with contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers.
