As one of British Columbia’s largest and most dynamic municipalities, Coquitlam is home to a diverse and rapidly evolving community of more than 170,000 residents.
Located in the heart of Metro Vancouver, Coquitlam combines established neighbourhoods, emerging urban centres, rapid‑transit connectivity and significant new community development with extensive parks, trails and natural areas.
The City is experiencing substantial growth and transformation while continuing to focus on thoughtful city building, sustainable service delivery and an exceptional quality of life.
Our brand is built on managing our resources in a responsible and sustainable manner while supporting a vibrant, growing regional urban centre. We envision a bright future in Coquitlam that we hope includes you.
Technology plays an essential role in supporting this growth and the services our community relies on. Our Information and Communications Technology team is advancing the City’s technology modernization, strengthening our infrastructure and developing our cloud capabilities. This work creates opportunities for skilled professionals to apply their expertise, improve how we operate and contribute to the next stage of the City’s technology environment.
About You / What We Are Looking For The City of Coquitlam is seeking an experienced cloud infrastructure professional to join our Information and Communications Technology team as Cloud Infrastructure Analyst. This newly created position offers the opportunity to bring your Microsoft expertise into an evolving environment and help shape how the City adopts, manages and supports cloud services.
Reporting to the Manager ICT Infrastructure, you will administer, maintain and optimize our physical, virtual and hybrid cloud infrastructure, with a primary focus on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365. Working closely with infrastructure, networking, security and application colleagues, you will help keep critical systems secure, reliable and responsive while supporting cloud migrations and modernization initiatives.
This is an opportunity for a hands‑on professional who understands both Azure infrastructure and Microsoft 365 administration. You bring practical experience with Microsoft Intune and PowerShell, together with the technical judgement to troubleshoot complex issues, automate recurring tasks and make improvements that strengthen performance, security and operational efficiency.
As the City expands its cloud capabilities, you will contribute to how applications are onboarded, infrastructure is managed and resources are optimized. You are comfortable working independently within established standards, assessing the implications of technical changes and knowing when to involve colleagues or escalation a decision.
We are looking for someone who combines technical credibility with clear communication and a customer‑focused approach. You build effective relationships across technical teams, business units and service providers, explain complex information in approachable terms and follow through with practical solutions and clear documentation.
Whether you are bringing experience from consulting, the private sector or public service,
this role offers the opportunity to take ongoing ownership of your work and see its impact over time. For a cloud professional motivated by technical challenges, modernization and meaningful public service, it is a chance to help build the capabilities the City will rely on in the years ahead.
Main Responsibilities
Provide day-to-day administration of physical, virtual and hybrid cloud infrastructure, with an immediate and primary focus on Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365, while supporting potential future expansion into AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
Deploy, configure, monitor and troubleshoot cloud resources, including virtual machines, storage, networking and databases.
Oversee hybrid infrastructure governance and centralized server maintenance using tools such as Azure Arc and Azure Update Manager.
Monitor system performance, availability and capacity, and optimize cloud resources to improve performance and control operational costs.
Support cloud migrations and modernization initiatives, contributing technical expertise to application onboarding and resource planning.
Implement and maintain cloud security controls, encryption and compliance standards in collaboration with the appropriate technical teams.
Manage up-to-date device management and endpoint compliance using Microsoft Intune.
Perform routine maintenance, patch management and backups, and support disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Troubleshoot incidents, conduct root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
Use scripting and automation to improve administrative processes and support consistent infrastructure management.
Develop and maintain technical documentation, procedures, records and system configurations.
Collaborate with networking, security and application teams, business units and external service providers to support reliable cloud‑based solutions.
Complete work within established architecture standards, cybersecurity policies, change management procedures, budgets and service expectations, escalating significant changes or risks as appropriate.
Ensure compliance with organizational policies and industry best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
A university degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, supplemented by relevant training or certification; an equivalent combination of training and experience will be considered.
A minimum of five years of experience administering cloud environments, including dedicated hands‑on experience with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft 365.
Practical experience with Microsoft Intune for device management and endpoint compliance.
Experience administering hybrid infrastructure, including the use of Azure Arc, Azure Update Manager or comparable hybrid server management tools.
A strong understanding of cloud networking, virtual machines, storage, DNS, VPN configuration and load balancing.
Experience with Windows Server and/or Linux administration.
Knowledge of Active Directory and Microsoft Entra ID, formerly Azure Active Directory.
Experience using PowerShell to automate administrative tasks.
Experience with backup and storage technologies, disaster recovery and business continuity planning.
Knowledge of cloud security controls, security frameworks and compliance standards.
Strong troubleshooting, analytical, critical‑thinking and problem‑solving skills.
Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to explain technical information clearly and prepare technical presentations and documentation.
Strong organizational and time‑management skills, with the ability to prioritize competing operational and project demands.
A collaborative, customer‑focused approach and the ability to build effective working relationships.
A valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence.
Preferred Qualifications
Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate certification or another relevant Microsoft cloud certification.
Additional experience with AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
Experience administering both Windows Server and Linux environments.
Familiarity with additional scripting languages, such as Bash or Python.
Experience supporting cloud migrations and modernization initiatives.
Experience using monitoring and logging tools such as Azure Monitor, CloudWatch or Grafana.
The Ideal Candidate You are a skilled, detail‑oriented infrastructure professional who combines technical capability with thoughtful decision‑making. You investigate issues thoroughly, identify practical solutions and consider the effects of changes on security, reliability, cost and the people using the systems.
You can move between planned project work and operational priorities while keeping others informed. You take ownership of outcomes, recognize when an issue needs escalation and leave clear documentation that supports your colleagues.
You enjoy working with people as much as technology. You listen carefully, build productive relationships and communicate complex information in a clear, approachable way. You understand that dependable infrastructure and responsive technical support help colleagues across the organization deliver effective services.
You are also motivated by improvement. You look for opportunities to automate repetitive work, strengthen system performance and support the City’s transition toward a more mature cloud environment.
