Veith House is a neighbourhood hub that provides services and opportunities to Halifax residents, connecting them with one another to build a healthier, more vibrant community. Our PD Day Camps run throughout the academic year, serving children ranging in ages from 5 to 11 years. The PD Day Camp Facilitator positions will work primarily with our school aged campers (5-11 years) and will be responsible for the day-to-day care and safety of our participants, as well as planning meaningful daily programs. The goal of our PD Day Camp Program is to give children the opportunity to grow and develop, socialize, and develop respect for the environment and urban wildlife. The bulk of this program will focus on science and environmental activities, the outdoors, and physical activity and using these as tools to support social development. Summer Camp Facilitators will report directly to our Director of Early Childhood Programming.

Requirements:

- 18-30 years old;
- Ability to build and maintain professional relationships with parents and children alike;
- Ability to relate and communicate with diverse populations and groups;
- Previous experience with children;
- Ability to work as part of a team with Veith House staff;
- Taking roll call at the beginning and end of every activity
- Assisting with the preparations for the camp (setting up tables and chairs,



assisting in game and craft setup, putting away supplies, distribute craft supplies as needed);
- Make sure the facilities and play areas are clean and safe for children;
- Help plan, organize and lead games, crafts, activities, and field trips;
- Supervision of campers during activities, crafts, games, play, and field trips (supervision may involve standing and walking for long periods of time);
- Facilitating, leading and organizing the kids for set programs (games, arts & crafts,
- special events, or etc.);
- Current First Aid and CPR (within the past 3 years);
- Criminal background/ child abuse registry check. Desired

qualifications:

- Studies in Child and Youth Studies, environmental education, arts education or other relevant training;
- Visible minority from North End community;
- Experience in coaching or playing sports (basketball, soccer) and/or facilitating outdoor active play;
