Northern Oaks Contracting is a general contractor building, renovating, and maintaining homes and cottages across Muskoka. We handle projects from start to finish, and we’re growing fast. We’re looking for a hands-on leader who thrives in a fast-paced environment to run our sites and grow with the company. The Role This is a working lead position. You’ll spend most of your day on the tools across all phases of construction, while leading the crew, keeping the site organized, and making sure jobs get done right and on schedule. We want an all-around builder who’s comfortable jumping into whatever the job needs, and who others naturally look to on site. What You’ll Do
- Lead a crew of 2 to 4 and work alongside them on all phases of construction
- Do hands-on work across the trades, including: demo, framing, roofing, windows and doors, insulation, drywall, flooring, trim, decks, general repairs, etc.
- Plan daily and weekly tasks and keep the job moving
- Schedule and coordinate subtrades and make sure their work is ready and done right as needed
- Read drawings and make sure the work meets plans and the Ontario Building Code as needed
- Track materials, place orders, and manage deliveries to site as needed
- Keep the site protected, clean, and in line with OHSA requirements
- Check quality throughout the job and handle punch lists and deficiencies
- Be the main on-site contact for clients, and keep them informed as needed
- Train and mentor newer crew members
- Keep a daily log and post site updates and photos through our team app
- Report progress, issues, and changes to manager What We’re Looking For




- Living in or near Muskoka or willingness to reliably commute
- 5+ years of hands-on residential construction experience across multiple phases or trades
- Experience leading a crew or running a site
- Strong general building skills, from rough-in to finish
- Able to read blueprints and do layout
- Comfortable using a smartphone or tablet daily to post updates, photos, and daily logs in our team software (we’ll train you on our system)
- Comfortable coordinating subtrades and dealing directly with clients
- Organized, dependable, and calm when problems come up
- Thrives in a fast-paced setting and can juggle changing priorities without losing focus on quality
- Reliable transportation to get to job sites across Muskoka
- Valid Ontario driver’s licence (G) and current vehicle insurance
- Working at Heights certification (or willing to get it) Assets
- Your own basic hand tools
- First aid / CPR
- Cottage or waterfront construction experience
- Experience working on boat-access sites
