Overview The Casual Respite Support Worker provides practical, respectful support to individuals during respite care. The role helps people maintain comfort, dignity, and daily routines while offering dependable assistance to those receiving care and reassurance to their families. We are building our casual staffing pool in preparation for upcoming respite opportunities. Hours are not guaranteed, and assignments will depend on client needs and availability. Duties
- Assist with patient care, senior care, caregiving, and daily activities in home care or assisted living settings.
- Support meal preparation, cleaning, and medication administration in line with the individual’s care plan and established procedures.
- Provide considerate support for people with dementia, disabilities, or hospice care needs, adapting assistance to each person’s preferences.
- Use safe practices when providing physical assistance, including tasks that may involve heavy lifting, and communicate relevant updates to colleagues.
- Providing in-home respite care and caregiver relief.
- Supporting children, youth and adults with daily routines and individualized care plans.
- Assisting with personal care and hygiene where appropriately trained.
- Providing companionship, supervision and social engagement.
- Supporting individuals with developmental disabilities and behavioural needs.
- Encouraging independence and practical life skills.
- Accompanying clients to medical appointments, community programs and recreational activities.
- Providing non-emergency transportation when appropriately authorized and insured.
- Assisting with non-clinical hospital-to-home transitions.
- Providing overnight respite support when assigned.
- Implementing appropriate behavioural support and de-escalation strategies.
- Maintaining accurate documentation and following organizational policies and safety procedures. Mandatory

Qualifications:

- Completed or currently enrolled in a Degree,



Diploma or certificate in Child and Youth Care, social work, social services, Health and Human Services, Developmental Services, Personal Support Work or a related field.
- A minimum of two years experience in providing residential care, respite care, or direct support services
- Satisfactory Broad Record Check (BRC)
- Child Welfare Record Check,
- Valid First Aid and CPR certification,
- Legal Authorization to work in Canada,
- Valid Driver’s License and access to a Reliable Vehicle with a two million dollars Liability Insurance Preferred Qualifications (Assets)
- Secure Management Group (SMG), crisis prevention or behavioural support training.
- Trauma-Informed Care, Indigenous Awareness or other relevant training.
- Availability for evenings, weekends and overnight shifts.
- Bilingualism (English and French) Experience Required: Practical caregiving skills, patience, clear communication, and the ability to follow care instructions while supporting daily routines safely and respectfully. Preferred: Experience in patient care, nursing, assisted living, nursing homes, senior care, hospice care, dementia care, disability support, or home care is valuable.
