KMBS Professional Corporation is seeking an experienced Ontario family law lawyer to act on a contract basis, handling both existing and new client files in a litigation-focused practice. The Role This is an independent contractor engagement, not an employment position. Counsel will assume carriage of existing client matters and take on new files as they are retained. The work involves highly contentious family law litigation, including matters with high net worth parties and matters involving allegations of domestic abuse and financial control. Minimum Requirements
- Call to the Ontario bar, in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario
- Minimum five (5) years of experience practising family law in Ontario
- Demonstrated experience in highly contentious family law cases,
- Proven ability to manage a litigation caseload
- Willingness and availability to work outside standard business hours inc. late nights, weekends, and holidays​
- A valid driver's license, access to a reliable vehicle, and the willingness to travel wherever our clients matters happen to be in Ontario Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrated experience of real courtroom advocacy on contentious family law applications including, attending conferences, arguing motions, and conducting trials
- Criminal defence exclusive or work ones that involve criminal charges or allegations and should be able to demonstrate a solid understanding of how criminal allegations and prosecutiona intersect with family law applications.
- Experience in child protection matters, including Children's Aid Society (CAS)

- Membership on the Legal Aid Ontario (LAO) panel for criminal and/or family matters (helpful but not required) Support and Resources
- Competitive hourly rate paid for all work, including travel, commensurate with experience

- While the work is predominantly virtual, well appointed and staffed office facilities are available 24/7 when required This is not a supervised or training role: candidates must be able to carry their files independently, from first appearance through trial. Counsel is responsible for their own insurance, Law Society fees, CPD and taxes.
