Full Job Summary

We are seeking a vigilant and professional Advanced Tactical Security Guard to protect our retail environment and the people in it. This is the next level of security guard work. You won’t just stand post. You’ll handle multiple incidents every day,



from shoplifting and disturbances to emergencies, and your actions will keep people safe and protect your community.

The ideal candidate has a keen eye for detail, strong observational skills, and the ability to respond effectively under pressure. You’ll also liaise with the Sudbury Police and build lasting working relationships with them, a great step for anyone considering a future in law enforcement. Prior security experience is preferred, but character and reliability matter more.

Your duties may include:

- Monitoring store entry and exit points
- Conducting regular foot patrols of the sales floor and back-of-house areas
- Ensuring the safety of staff and customers inside the store
- Enforcing the Trespass to Property Act (TPA)
- Responding to shoplifting incidents, disturbances, and emergencies, often multiple times per shift
- Liaising with the Sudbury Police and building strong, professional relationships with local officers
- Assisting with store opening and closing procedures
- Writing transparent and accurate incident reports after every event
- Providing basic crowd management during high-traffic periods
- Coordinating with store management and law enforcement when necessary

This is not a desk job.



You will be on your feet for the duration of your shift, staying alert and staying visible. Some of the job is presence and observation, but when something happens, you need to respond quickly, professionally, and within the boundaries of the law. This is real work that makes a real difference.

Shifts vary based on store hours and may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. Cedar provides site-specific orientation and ongoing training and support for all employees.

Requirements

- Valid Ontario security guard licence (required)
- Ability to communicate clearly in English with customers, staff, and emergency services (required)
- Standard First Aid and CPR (preferred)
- Professional appearance and demeanor, as you are representing both Cedar and the client
- Ability to stand, walk, and patrol for extended periods (8–12 hour shifts)
- Strong observational skills and situational awareness
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to write clear incident reports using professional language
- Reliable and punctual: showing up on time, every time, is a baseline expectation
- Previous retail security or customer service experience is preferred but not required
- Comfortable working independently with minimal supervision
