Experienced CNC Horizontal Boring Mill Machinists Wanted

Axton Incorporated is looking for an experienced CNC Horizontal Boring Mill (HBM) Machinist to join our machine shop in Delta, BC.

We need someone who can set up, program and run a CNC horizontal boring mill on large, heavy industrial components. Manual HBM experience is a bonus, but CNC HBM experience is the priority for this role.

Axton manufactures custom pressure vessels, heat exchangers and process equipment. Our machine shop supports this work by machining large one-off and low-volume components such as tubesheets, flanges, nozzles, channels and heads. You will be setting up new jobs regularly, not running the same production part all shift.

The Machines

- Fermat WF13 4.5-axis CNC horizontal boring mill: X=248", Y=118", Z=23.6", W=28.7" spindle extension, full rotary table. Our largest HBM, used for tubesheets and large exchanger components.
- Doosan DBC 110 4.5-axis CNC horizontal boring mill: X=100", Y=78", Z=60". Enough reach for full-diameter cuts on large vessels in a single setup.

The machine shop also runs a Puma CNC lathe, a Century CNC vertical boring mill and manual machines, all inside our 72,000 sq ft facility with 20-ton overhead cranes.

What You'll Be Doing

- Set up and operate CNC horizontal boring mills on large, heavy workpieces
- Write, edit and prove out CNC programs at the control
- Set work offsets, tool offsets and datums; indicate and square large parts
- Boring,

milling, facing, drilling and tapping, including tube hole patterns
- Use rotary tables and fixtures to machine multiple faces in one setup
- Plan setups and machining sequences from engineering drawings
- Select tooling, speeds and feeds for carbon steel, stainless and alloy materials
- Hold tolerances using micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators and other precision tools
- Inspect your own work throughout the job
- Work closely with our fabrication, engineering and quality teams

What We're Looking For

Required:

- 2+ years running a CNC horizontal boring mill (setup and operation, not just loading parts)
- Ability to edit and troubleshoot CNC programs at the machine
- Experience with common controls such as Fanuc, Heidenhain, Siemens or similar
- Ability to independently set up jobs from engineering drawings
- Robust understanding of tooling, speeds and feeds
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances
- Experience using precision measuring equipment
- Red Seal Machinist certification

Preferred:

- Manual horizontal boring mill experience
- CAM programming experience
- Experience with large, heavy components and overhead crane rigging
- Job shop, custom fabrication, repair shop or heavy industrial manufacturing background
- Experience machining pressure vessel or heat exchanger components

Why Work at Axton?

- $45.00 to $50.00/hour, based on experience
- 4-day workweek, Monday to Thursday

- 10-hour shifts with paid lunch
- $3.00/hour afternoon shift premium
- Extended health care, dental, vision and life insurance
- Company pension plan
- On-site parking
- Stable, long-term employment
- Varied custom work instead of repetitive production runs
- Work on large, specialized industrial equipment
