We are an after-school learning centre in South Surrey looking for an enthusiastic and experienced English tutor to teach reading and writing to children aged 6–12 in small group classes.

We are looking for someone who enjoys working with children and is passionate about helping them develop their reading, writing, and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

- Teach engaging small group reading and writing lessons.
- Help students build confidence in reading comprehension, vocabulary, grammar, and writing.
- Create a positive and encouraging learning environment.
- Adapt teaching to students’ ages and learning levels.

Qualifications:

- Native-level proficiency in English.
- Experience teaching or tutoring children, preferably in reading and writing.
- Patient, responsible, and enthusiastic about working with children.

Position Details:

- Job type: Part-time
- Location: South Surrey, BC — in person
- Pay: $20 + per hour, depending on teaching experience and qualifications.

The Maths and English Tutor supports learners in developing confidence and practical skills in mathematics, English,



and writing. Through explicit explanations, structured teaching, and responsive tutoring, you adapt sessions to learners’ needs and encourage steady progress.

Duties

- Plan and deliver engaging Maths and English tutoring sessions, explaining concepts clearly and checking understanding.
- Support learners with reading, writing, problem-solving, and practice activities, adjusting teaching approaches to suit their progress.
- Create a welcoming learning environment, encourage questions, and share useful progress updates with relevant colleagues.
- Your impact: learners build stronger subject skills and greater confidence in their learning.

Requirements

Required: Strong English communication, clear writing skills, and practical teaching and tutoring abilities are essential for explaining concepts, guiding practice, and supporting learners. Preferred: Experience working with children and classroom experience are valuable; Mandarin, French, Spanish, or Japanese language skills can also help you connect with learners and support varied communication needs.

Pay: From $18.25 per hour
