Job Summary

Footholds Therapy Center is seeking two dedicated and energetic Recreation and Community Support Workers to join our team. In this role, you will provide essential support to children and youth, helping them navigate both educational settings and community-based recreational activities. The ideal candidate is someone who is deeply passionate about youth development, inclusive play, and fostering a supportive environment where every child can thrive.

Responsibilities

- School-Based Support: Assist children within the school environment to ensure they are engaged, supported, and meeting their daily educational and social goals.
- Community Integration: Accompany and support children during community outings and recreational activities, including swimming, visits to the Air House, local parks, and other community events.
- Activity Facilitation: Encourage participation in physical and social activities while ensuring the safety and well-being of all participants.
- Mentorship: Act as a positive role model, providing emotional support and guidance to help youth build confidence and social skills.
- Transportation: Safely transport children to and from various community activities as required.
- Professional Standards: Abide by all Footholds policies and the qualified code of ethics at all times.

Experience and Qualifications

- Education & Experience: Post-secondary degree, diploma,



or training in a related field, or significant experience working with special needs learners.
- Certifications: Valid First Aid certification is required.
- Background Check: A clear Criminal Record Check (including vulnerable sector search) is required.
- Licensing: Must possess a valid, full driver’s license.
- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Core Competencies: Strong organizational and time management skills; compassion, empathy, and patience.
- Resilience: Ability to work effectively under pressure in high-energy environments.
- Adaptability: Flexibility and a proven ability to work effectively in a variety of settings (from classrooms to playgrounds).

Schedule

- Status: Full-time
- Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM – 4:00 PM
- Location: Various locations including local schools and community recreation centers.
- Please note that candidates must live in Nanaimo or the surrounding area to be considered for this position.
