Summit Start Cityscape is seeking a proactive, adaptable, and hands-on Assistant Director to support the daily operations of our Cityscape childcare program.

Cityscape operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The successful candidate must be comfortable working in a 24-hour operational environment and adjusting their schedule to meet the needs of the centre, including evening, overnight, and weekend operations.

This position requires an engaged leader who can support staff across all shifts, maintain consistent program standards, respond to operational challenges, and ensure compliance with applicable childcare licensing requirements.

Responsibilities:

- Support and oversee daily childcare operations in a centre operating 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Provide hands-on leadership, staff supervision, coaching, and mentoring across day, evening, overnight, and weekend shifts.
- Monitor child supervision, health and safety practices, and overall program quality.
- Support staff onboarding, orientation, training, and ongoing performance management and career development.
- Monitor staff performance and ensure consistent implementation of Summit Start's policies, procedures, and child guidance practices.
- Assist with staff scheduling, shift coverage, and maintaining appropriate staffing levels, including responding to staff call-outs and unexpected absences.
- Maintain effective communication between shifts and ensure important information, incidents, concerns, and follow-up actions are documented and communicated appropriately.
- Coordinate with the Director and staff to ensure continuity of care and consistent operational standards throughout the centre's 24-hour operation.
- Address operational concerns and respond to urgent situations as required.




- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, performance discussions, and coaching sessions outside regular working hours when necessary.

Requirements:

- Alberta Childcare Level 2/3 Certification.
- A minimum of 2–3 years of experience in a childcare supervisory or leadership role is required.
- Knowledge of Alberta childcare licensing requirements, health and safety standards, and childcare program practices.
- Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and problem-solving skills.
- Flexibility to adjust working hours and support different shifts, including evenings and weekends, based on operational needs.
- Valid Standard First Aid with CPR Level B or C Certification.
- Clear & Valid Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector obtained within the last 6 months.
