Burnaby

Adaptive is hiring a Desktop Support Engineer for Vancouver and the surrounding area. You will be the friendly face clients see when something onsite needs hands-on technical help.

Who we are

Adaptive is a managed IT and security company in Burnaby, BC. Ian Sutherland and Stefan Neuberg started it in a basement in 2006 as a service company first and a technical company second.

Why we do this

We want to help people do great work, and technology should make that easier. Our job is to keep it secure, easy and helpful, and to help organizations get more out of their technology as IT keeps changing. Here is how we try to work:

- People come first. A real person answers when you call.
- Speak human. Plain language and everyday comparisons, no jargon.
- Amaze every client. We aim for service people remember for the right reasons.
- Trust, respect and empower. We trust our team to make the right call.
- No surprises. Clear, all-in agreements with no hidden fees.
- Own it, fix it, learn from it. When we get something wrong, we say so and make it right.

The basics

- Full-time Monday to Friday, permanent, hybrid
- CA$65,000 to CA$75,000 a year, plus overtime and bonus pay
- Based in Vancouver and the surrounding area, so you need a reliable commute (or a plan to move before you start), a valid BC driver's licence and your own vehicle

What you will do

A typical week looks like this:

- Fix computers, printers, Wi-Fi and mobile devices, on a schedule and for the occasional emergency.
- Set up new computers and new staff, including their Microsoft 365 accounts.
- Install and test network equipment, and track down network problems.
- Work tickets in Autotask (our ticketing system), write notes a colleague could pick up cold, and work with outside vendors such as internet providers until the issue is closed.
- Keep client documentation current in IT Glue (our documentation system).
- Help onboard new clients (about two months from signing to going live).

What we are looking for

- 5 or more years in IT support, including working with outside vendors.
- Solid Windows 11 and Microsoft 365 skills (Outlook, Teams, OneDrive, SharePoint), plus Entra ID (Microsoft's sign-in system).
- Working knowledge of Active Directory (the server that manages staff logins) and Windows Server.
- A good grip on networks: VPN (secure remote access), DNS and DHCP (how devices find each other and get addresses) and Wi-Fi.
- Experience with backups, and with mobile device management (controls that protect company data on phones and laptops) for iPhone and Android.
- A calm, friendly manner with everyone from the front desk to the board.
- Clear writing in your tickets.
- Ability to lift heavy gear now and then, such as servers, battery backups and network equipment.
- Legal eligibility to work in Canada, and willingness to do a criminal record check, which some of our healthcare clients require.

Nice to have

- Post-secondary education in a related field.
- Windows Server 2019 or newer.
- CompTIA A+ and Network+, or Microsoft's MD-102 (endpoint administrator).
- Time at a managed service provider (a company like us), or with Autotask, Datto RMM, ScreenConnect or IT Glue.
- Past work in professional offices or healthcare environments.

What you get

- Extended health, dental, vision and life insurance.
- Paid vacation and time off.
- Education completion bonus.
- Cellphone and mileage compensation.
- Flex days after the probationary period ends.
- On-site parking, gym, stocked drinks and snacks in the office, a casual dress code and company events.
- A small team that knows your name.

Pay: $65,000.00-$75,000.00 per year

Benefits:

- Casual dress
- Dental care
- Discounted or free food
- Extended health care
- Adaptable schedule
- Mileage reimbursement
- On-site gym
- On-site parking
- Paid time off
- RRSP match
- Tuition reimbursement
- Vision care
- Work from home

Ability to commute/relocate:

- Burnaby, BC V5C 5T5: reliably commute or plan to relocate before starting work (preferred)

Work Location: Hybrid remote in Burnaby, BC V5C 5T5
