Job Overview

We’re looking for a Family Law Associate who is ready to carry their own family law files from intake to resolution. You’ll have real responsibility and independence, with mentorship available whenever you need it.

This is a temporary position for a term of 6-12 months, with the potential to be hired back or continue with the firm after the term ends.

This role is a good fit if you want to run your own files, while still having an experienced lawyer in your corner.

What You’ll Do

- Manage your own caseload of family law matters, including separation and divorce, parenting (decision-making responsibility and parenting time), child and spousal support, and property division. Some child protection work will be available.
- Meet with clients, give advice, and manage client expectations and communication.
- Draft pleadings, affidavits, financial statements, separation agreements, and other domestic contracts.
- Attend case conferences, settlement conferences, and motions in the the Superior Court of Justice, Family Branch.
- Negotiate settlements and work toward practical resolutions
- Manage your own deadlines, docketing, and file organization

What We’re Looking For





- Licensed to practise law in Ontario and in good standing with the Law Society of Ontario.
- 1 to 5 years of family law experience (articling experience in family law considered).
- Working knowledge of the Family Law Rules, Divorce Act, Family Law Act, and Children’s Law Reform Act.
- Ability to work independently, use good judgment, and know when to ask for input.
- Strong organization and time management.
- Clear, compassionate communication with clients going through a difficult time.
- Experience with DivorceMate is an asset.

What We Offer

- Salary: $70,000 – $100,000 per year, depending on experience.
