Yard and Shop Labourer

The Opportunity

Blindman Valley Propane is seeking a dependable and safety-conscious Yard and Shop Labourer to support our Red Deer operation.

Reporting to the General Manager, you will help keep the yard and shop safe, organized and operating efficiently. This is a hands-on position involving material handling, equipment preparation, general upkeep and day-to-day support for our delivery and service teams.

This opportunity is well suited to someone who enjoys physical work, takes pride in keeping a worksite organized and wants to learn more about propane equipment and operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesYard and Shop Operations

- Keep the yard, shop and work areas clean, organized and free of hazards.
- Complete routine housekeeping and seasonal snow, ice and debris removal.
- Load, unload, move and organize equipment, materials and supplies.
- Receive incoming deliveries and verify materials against the appropriate documentation.
- Maintain orderly storage areas and ensure materials are placed in their assigned locations.
- Prepare and stage equipment and materials for drivers and service technicians.
- Help maintain clear access to equipment, vehicles and emergency areas.
- Assist with inventory counts and advise the appropriate team member when supplies are running low.

Equipment and Operational Support

- Assist with cleaning, inspecting and maintaining vehicles, tools and equipment within the limits of your training.
- Clean and prepare propane tanks, cylinders and related equipment as directed.
- Identify and report damaged equipment, maintenance concerns, hazards and supply shortages.
- Support drivers, service technicians and other team members with general labour and operational tasks.
- Assist with yard, shop and process-improvement projects.




- Use basic hand and power tools safely when trained and authorized.
- Complete other related duties assigned by the General Manager.

Safety and Compliance

- Follow company safety procedures and Alberta Occupational Health and Safety requirements.
- Wear all required personal protective equipment.
- Use proper lifting and material-handling techniques.
- Operate tools and equipment only when trained and authorized.
- Handle propane-related equipment and materials only within the scope of assigned training and demonstrated competency.
- Do not perform regulated propane work without the required qualifications and authorization.
- Report incidents, near misses, unsafe conditions and damaged equipment promptly.
- Help maintain a respectful, inclusive and harassment-free workplace.

Qualifications

- Previous yard, warehouse, shop, construction or general labour experience is an asset.
- Comfortable performing hands-on work in an active shop and outdoor yard environment.
- Basic mechanical aptitude and experience using hand tools are assets.
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
- Strong attention to safety, organization and quality.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
- Dependable, punctual and willing to assist with changing operational priorities.
- Valid driver’s licence is an asset.
- Forklift, skid-steer or other equipment experience is an asset but not required.




- Willingness to complete job-specific safety and propane-related training.

Physical Requirements

- Ability to stand and walk for extended periods.
- Frequent bending, reaching, climbing, kneeling, pushing and pulling.
- Ability to lift and move materials safely as required by the position.
- Ability to work indoors and outdoors in changing Alberta weather.
- Ability to wear required PPE and safely use material-handling equipment.
- Ability to perform physically active work throughout the shift.

Pay: $20.00-$22.00 per hour
