About HNPLC

Huronia Nurse Practitioner-Led Clinic is a warm, community-focused primary care clinic led by Nurse Practitioners. We serve patients across the Oro-Medonte / Barrie area with a collaborative interprofessional team of roughly 20+ staff. Our vision is Improving Health Together. We are a non-union workplace that values kindness, reliability, teamwork, and excellent patient service.

The role

We are hiring a Temporary Medical Receptionist to provide leave coverage for an existing full-time Medical Receptionist seat. You will be the welcoming face and voice of the clinic — managing the front desk, phones, scheduling, and day-to-day administrative flow that keeps patient care running smoothly.

You will report to the Operations Manager and work closely with Nurse Practitioners, clinical staff, and the admin team. Work is primarily on-site; location may be at our Oro-Medonte clinic and/or our Orillia site (to be determined). HNPLC operates more than one clinical site and staff may occasionally support coverage at another site as operationally required.

Key responsibilities

- Provide friendly, skilled reception and front-desk service to patients, visitors, and staff

- Answer and direct phone calls; respond to routine inquiries; escalate clinical or complex matters appropriately

- Book, reschedule, and manage appointments and daily schedules for multiple providers

- Work in the clinic electronic medical record (Telus PS Suites / PSS), including scheduling and related workflows

- Manage specialist referrals (booking and communicating appointment details to patients)

- Process incoming mail, faxes, referrals, and prescription-related administrative tasks

- Protect patient privacy and confidentiality at all times (PHIPA)

- Support infection-prevention practices at the front desk and in shared spaces

- Assist with team meeting logistics (agendas, minutes, distribution) as needed

- Complete other administrative duties as reasonably assigned to support clinic operations

What we're looking for

Required

- Experience in a medical office, clinic, or similar front-desk healthcare setting

- Strong scheduling skills and comfort managing calendars for multiple providers

- Excellent verbal and written communication; calm, professional phone manner

- Solid computer skills (Windows, Microsoft Office / Outlook, and willingness to learn clinic systems)

- Reliable, organized, and able to juggle competing priorities in a busy clinic

- Commitment to confidentiality, equity, and respectful patient service

- Reliable transportation to Oro-Medonte (Horseshoe Valley area) and/or Orillia as assigned

Assets

- Experience with Telus PS Suites (PSS)

or another electronic medical record

- Medical receptionist / medical administrative assistant experience

- Familiarity with specialist referrals, fax workflows, and primary-care front desk processes

- Bilingual (English/French) is an asset but not required

Conditions of employment

Employment is conditional upon a satisfactory Vulnerable Sector Check (as requested) and completion of required health/safety and onboarding requirements (e.g. immunization documentation, AODA/accessibility training, WHMIS, mask-fit as applicable). HNPLC will meet its obligations under the Ontario Human Rights Code regarding accommodation.

Compensation and terms

- Full-time temporary: 35 hours/week

- Expected compensation: $24.00 per hour, paid bi-weekly

- Temporary duration: approximately 4 months, with possible extension

- Group Benefits, including Short-Term Disability (STD) and Long-Term Disability (LTD)

- At the end of the temporary period, employment ends unless extended by a new written agreement

How to apply

Please apply directly through this Indeed posting.

We thank all applicants for their interest. Only those selected for an interview will be contacted. Applicants who are interviewed will be informed whether a hiring decision has been made within the timeframes required under Ontario's Employment Standards Act.

HNPLC is committed to an inclusive, barrier-free recruitment and selection process. Please let us know of any accommodation measures you may need during the hiring process; information relating to accommodation will be addressed confidentially.
