Job Title: Head of Design Operations
Location: Midhurst, ON | In-person position (Hybrid Option)
Compensation: $100,000–$110,000 base + up to $20,000 performance bonus (up to $130,000 total)
Full Job Description
HEAD OF DESIGN OPERATIONS
We have an exciting opportunity for a senior operational leader to shape the performance of a multidisciplinary design department within an established, growing firm delivering high-end residential, commercial, and hospitality projects. You will help approximately 15–20 professionals across Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Interior Design, and Furniture & Decorating work more effectively, while protecting the creativity and collaborative culture behind
exceptional design.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Reporting to the company’s senior operating leader (Integrator), you will own resource and capacity planning, operational performance, project efficiency, systems, technology adoption, and continuous improvement across the Design Department. This is not a traditional Project Manager, Studio Manager, or construction management role. It is a senior leadership opportunity focused on building the structure that enables talented design professionals to do their best work.
Your first year will focus on building and refining the department’s operational foundation: Scorecards, Measurables, Core Processes, reporting, and accountability. You will support implementation of the Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS®), including Rocks, Issues, Accountability, and Level 10 Meetings. You will forecast staffing needs, balance workloads and deadlines, monitor utilization and project economics, identify recurring bottlenecks,
and improve handoffs between disciplines.
You will also lead the implementation and optimization of project management software, dashboards, and reporting tools; encourage adoption through training and accountability; and evaluate AI and automation opportunities to reduce administrative work. You will provide leadership with clear operational information while supporting—not directing—the creative process.
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS:
- 15+ years of progressive experience in operations, project management, professional services, AEC, design, consulting, construction, or another complex project-based environment preferred
- At least 5 years of project management experience required
- Demonstrated success building and improving operational systems, processes, and team performance—not simply maintaining existing systems
- Solid understanding of capacity and resource planning, utilization, project delivery, operational KPIs, and project economics
- Experience implementing or improving project management, ERP, CRM, or resource planning tools such as Asana, Monday.com, Smartsheet, MS Project, HubSpot, or similar platforms
- Ability to establish useful dashboards, Scorecards, Measurables, and management reporting
- Experience with EOS® or another structured operating system is a significant asset
- Familiarity with design workflows and deliverables, including concept design, design development, and construction documents, is an asset
- Interest in AI, automation, systems integration, and emerging technology
- Confident, collaborative leadership style; comfortable building processes in a growing organization
- PMP or a related operational credential is an asset, not a requirement; English proficiency required
COMPANY CULTURE AND OPPORTUNITY
- Shape the operational direction of a growing multidisciplinary design firm of approximately 40 people
- Build scalable systems and accountability while preserving a creative, collaborative culture
- Lead technology, reporting, and AI integration across day-to-day design operations
- Work alongside teams delivering high-end residential, commercial, and hospitality projects
- Receive dental care, extended health care, and life insurance benefits
- Earn a base salary of $100,000–$110,000 plus eligibility for up to $20,000 in performance bonuses; Year 1 incentives are tied to build milestones, with subsequent incentives tied to established Measurables, Rocks, and business outcomes
